2.7 mods?
I am a realitve newb to porsches mechanically but not to other imports. I am also looking to purchase a base cayman in the future with few options ( PASM, 6 speed, Chrono and thats it) and wondering whether or not to let the mod bug bite me with yet another car. My question is this: Are there going to be mods for the 2.7?
I know a lot of you will tell me to just get the S but I have reasons why I am going with the base model. First off, that 9K difference in price. Also, and more importantly, I DON'T want that much power. I am aware of the never ending complaints that the S simply does not have enough power but I like a confident drive. 10 years ago 245 hp in a sub 3000lb sports car would have been plenty. So, with that in mind, I am not looking to make the 2.7 a screamer boasting more power than the S. I am looking for mods that enhance the driving experience. Sound is very important as is responsiveness in both throttle and steering feel. I am comming off of a car with race spec coilovers that are used ONLY on the street. So, needless to say, ride quality really doesn't concern me.
What, if anything, will we see for the base car? I would assume coilovers would fit both the 3.4 and 2.7 but what else?

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management

This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Don't some of the coilovers for the CS work with pasm? I plan on adding some if they do.
If I get PASM for only around $600 more I can add the 6 speed. So it's really a question of getting PASM or not.
I also plan on keeping the car for a long time and like the ability to activate a sport mode. However, an ecu flash would be perfered if it can maintain the smoothness of the 2.7. Does a flash exist for the base cayman yet? Any plans for one?
And yes, if I do become completely bored with 245 horses I will certainly look into the 3.8 swap, but I am certainly content with stock power.

what about exhaust since you wrote that you said that sound is very important?
you can start with de'snorking along with changing the intake. then do the exhaust complete with the headers.

If I do decide to mod it intake and exhaust are definately early changes, however I haven't seen these for the base cayman. Will 987 boxter goodies work on the cayman?

so the techart body kit wont fit right on a 2.7? because i was planning on getting a 2.7 adding the body kit tech art springs and spacers along with there rims

chris: i think that the Techart body kit will still fit a base cayman.
the base cayman has the same front bumper as the S version.

thats good who knows maybe i will try 2 get a used cayman s for the price of a base. i have until august doin my research now
