After researching everything I could find on the various aftermarket exhaust solutions for the Cayman S, I decided to get a Tubi Style exhaust today. Thanks to everyone who posted an article, photos, links to sound files or even just impressions of an exhaust system seen or heard. It was all helpful.
I'd written Champion Motorsports and gotten one reply with a price quote, but when I replied with a few questions I got nothing more. Anyway, I called my service writer to ask about installation and he quoted me an out-the-door price with installation comparable to the other quote without installation.
Yes, it's still expensive (at $2200 to $2300), but the appearance of the Tubi Style unit on the car is superior and the sound (though subject to taste, of course) is gratifying and apporpriately aggressive. I've heard it said that the Tubi sound on a Porsche is not characteristically Porsche-like. I'll take my chances. If it turns out to be too "other" or aftermarket sounding or whatever, I'll revert to stock and sell the Tubi.
But for now, I'm still anticipating the Tubi enhancement. It may be on my CS as soon as Monday evening. I will post still photos and probably a sound clip or video with sound recorded in the cabin. Last, I plan to keep the stock tips. I know that most people don't like them, but I do. They seem very craftsy and kind of Bauhaus to me. I'm sure the designers knew what they were doing!
Best,
Snaxster

Snaxster - Had you considered a baseline followed by a post-dyno to see the power gains of you new Tubi exhaust?
I’m with you on keeping your OEM tips (once polished). I’ve always felt that if our Caymans had the round tips as OEM and then came along a designed tip like we have, we would lineup for this MOD.
Hello, zornet. After researching, it seemed that no exhaust solution could offer more than a tiny power gain, so I didn't consider it further. But I will ask the shop if it's something they'd like to do for their own records, so we could both have the chart.
Also, I was looking for improved visual and sonic aesthetics, not more power. That said, if ever I go nuts one day and look for power mods, I would expect the exhaust to help or at least not hurt.
Glad to hear your opinion of the OEM tips. Just wait, folks: When the Cayman is old enough to be classic, the OEM tips will be seen as the classic design and all others will be passé!
You're right about polishing the OEM tips, of course. But I've been reluctant to polish mine since once I start I'll have to keep them polished.

So Snaxster, you're just doing the muffler. No headers, no 100 cell catalytic converters?
I'd like to do an exhaust system in my CS and Tubi is on the top of my list. Looking forward to seeing your photos and video.
Get the system done in time for the PBOC event at Homestead December 9 & 10 so I can check it out!
Snaxster,
I'm not sure what kind of gains you were expecting from exhaust, but a 21 rear wheel HP gain for the header+catback combo is huge on a naturally aspirated car, catback alone accounting for about 11-12hp, which again is huge. Most catback systems on naturally aspirated motors produce no gain (sound only) or minimal (less than 5hp). It would be nice if you dyno'd your car before and after the install the day they install it so we could get some numbers for Tubi and compare those to the other exhausts that are out there.
Snaxter, I have the TUBI exhaust in my croc and its awesome. Yes it sound different, Id say more like Ferrari. But the engine grasp is there, unmistakenly Porsche. All for the good in my opinion. Everyone that hears my TUBI loves it. Not a single dislike. If you are getting the exhaust get the headers, man what a difference they make. I have the Milltek and I agree with KmanS you make real gains here. Enjoy!

Hi, drvreg. All in good time! For starters, I'm not as advanced a driver as some of you guys are. It's already true that most of the CS' capabilities are wasted on me. In other words, it's likely that I'll never stop growing into this car.
As such, any quest by me for real power gains (or braking gains, or whatever) could only be motivated by either vanity (e.g., bragging rights) or laziness (that is, stock power starts to feel "normal" so rather than trying to improve my own technique I add more power.)
So, really and truly this first mod is for aesthetics. It's for my head. Heck — the whole car is for my head! I saw "Therapist" as the nickname for somebody's Cayman here. It's like that for me, but I've called my two P-cars "head floss".
If the part comes in on time, I'll get the help of my friend who knows my camera even better than I do (and knows cars infinitely better) and make that cockpit video well before December 9th.

Hi, K-Man S. I didn't have an exact expectation; only that the aftermarket system shouldn't degrade power. I will ask the shop about before and after dyno runs. Seems that we lack charts for the Tubi exhaust on a Cayman S, so I will try to accomodate!

Thanks, Cocodrilo. You wrote "grasp", but if you meant "rasp", then yes — the raspiness is something I wanted specifically. I'm glad to hear you're getting it! Woo-hoo!
Headers, someday...
