B&M Short Shifter

Well, I just had my $199 B&M from Bumperplugs installed. Took about 1.5 hours, $150 for the install. I'll give out the name of the shop that did the install here in SoCal if anyone requests it.

Like others have posted here - if you've had the opportunity to compare the OEM shifter with the short shifter, it's a dramatic difference. It's like driving a completely different car. I'm finding I have to re-learn my throttle/clutch finesse because the shift throws are so short (and subsequently quicker).

Highly recommended mod!

How does the B&M shifter compare to the factory short shifter? Are they about the same "shortness", or is the B&M shorter? Did you notice much increase in shift effort?

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback! Time to add "short shifter" to your sig.

Thanks,

Unfortunately I really can't say, as I have no experience with the factory short shifter.

As for shift effort - my initial perception is that the throws are a little stiffer, especially when the engine is cold. However, it is more than made up for with the short throw and increased shift precision - when you shift you can really feel the "gates".

Chaseman,

The shop is Eurorev, a small Eurocar tuning shop in Gardena. They charge a flat $150 to install. They tune Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, and Porsche, and they will also do installs from TechArt, Rinspeed, etc. You can get more information at www.eurorev.com and call them to make an appointment.

I hope someone with more knowledge will post, but I believe that B&M is the company that makes the OEM shifter. So they would be the same thing if true? Anyone else know?

ivanhoe I believe you're correct. I remember reading someone's post just a day or two ago about this topic. He had said they make two version of the ss. I think the aftermarket one was even shorter than the factory optioned one. I can't really imagine that as it's plenty short enough. At least for my liking.

Anyways I'm sure Interpol will learn to enjoy the CS even more now.

You definitely save coin going witht the SS by B&M. I have the OEM SS and it was a great mod...although, i dont really remember now how the standard shifter really felt. enjoy...

I'm scheduled to have the Porsche SS kit installed on Monday. They had my car through the weekend to take care of some initial issues with my "new" car and I figured I'd have them do everything at once. The kit I'm having installed is nearly twice the price of the B&M. Plus, the dealership wants around $300 to install it.

Is this a rip off? Could you run into warranty issues with the after-market kit? I suppose if you ever had any problems you'd have to prove that those problems were not caused by either the kit or the install.

$300 dollars is pretty outrageous for a shifter install. if you have never done it before and you really took your sweet time it would be 2hrs. i wouldn't be surprised that if their techs could knoock it out in less than hour, so $300 dollars per hour labor rate, and you don't even get dirty! i put one in my buddies 996 and it really is an easy job, if you are the least bit mechanically inclined do it yourself.
