ECU reset after Exhuast Install

I have considered getting an ECU flash (giac or other) and air intake/filter as my next performance mod. Not necessarily to get a bunch more hp, but to make sure the engine is running at peak performance with the new exhuast. After an aftermarket exhaust install the cars air fuel ratio can change significantly. although it may not be a big deal, i just want to be able to get the most out of my mods.

Anyway, in the mean time i was wondering if any of you that have installed aftermarket exhaust's have had your ECU reset?

I really wish we had a way of doing this on our caymans without going to the dealer. With my audi you could do it by disconnecting the battery, holding down a button on the steering wheel stalk, and chanting incantations to the audi gods. You could also hook up your laptop if you had the connector (easily purchased) and the software to make changes if you so dared. I hate to go into the dealership and ask them to reset my ECU. I am not really happy with their service dept. right now, and i am sure they will give me a hard time and then charge me up the wahhzoo.

Any suggestions?

Actually unplugging your battery for a couple of minutes will reset your ECU, actually what happens is it goes through a learning mode next time it starts up, essentially a reset, some values are not actually reset though. You might ask PCA-TECH to explain it.

unplugging alone will not reset the ecu...it has multiple capacitors inside that ratain power for the memory. You must discharge them by grounding the power lead. On the 996's you can do this by disconnecting the battery terminals and touching the two cables together for a bit...it ofcourse resets every memory for the whole car though. I have not verified if it also still works on the newer cars.

the fuel trim values will adapt pretty fast for the change in airflows though, even without resetting....

Unplugging the battery... sounds like a pain... how about that fancy fuse box by your left foot.
