Dyno differences with air filter and ecu mod

Hi Everyone,

I have been considering a new air filter and ecu mod, and have been looking at different dyno results. I am puzzled by the differences when you look at the charts. For example:

(1) Cayman W shows a very large torque gain of about 45 at 3000 rpm

http://www.caymanclub.net/attachment...3&d=1161706252

(2) Orton shows a torque gain that looks closer to 10 at 3000 rpm
http://www.ortonusa.com/porsche/caymansengine310.html

(3) EVO shows virtually no torque gain at 3000 rpm, but in contrast shows a relatively large gain in HP at high RPM (13 HP), that is about twice as high as the max that Cayman W achieved.

Does anyone have any thoughts on these differences? Are they perhaps due to alternative ways to do the ecu mod that trades off on high RPM vs. low RPM gains?

Thanks much,

Leo

First Kudos on doing the research with the items available here. I suspect some of these differences you are seeing are related to the individual cars, the different dynos and other factors that vary like gas octane, etc.

I would consider that you are going to get an improvement (that was consistent across all charts) but that your improvement is going to fall within a "range" based on your individual factors.

That first graph indeed does have a huge gain at the low end of the mid-range. It's almost like there was a timing issue on the stock car. Or maybe a squirrel was burried in the airbox! The others have a pretty consistent level or torque at that rpm. Strange...
