Sport Shifter - Sticking??

Hi Gang,

Do any of you that has the Sport Shifter option on their Cayman S experience the following...

When I start the car in the morning the shifter is not at all smooth. It takes a while for the shifter to loosen up. I remember the sales person mentioning that it loosens up after the fluids warm up...I live in Canada and yes it is winter, but I'm wondering if others have the same experience?

Grass,

I don't have the sport shifter, but I do remember others that do saying the same thing. I think it might be normal. Someone will chime in here soon.

I have the sports shifter and it does loosen up a bit once the transmission warms up but not by much, however temperatures around here are not exactly what you guys have to put up with. It barely goes below 10 C at night out here. I am sure the shifter will take a lot longer to loosen up were you are but don't expect it to be a soft as the standard shifter.

I had mine installed after delivery. Both the sales person and service advisor told me to expect stiffer movement until it warms up in the winter.

Completely normal. Gets better once things warm up. In some cases I can barely get my 997S into 1st gear on a cold day until I drive the car for some time. In consistently cold climates this might be a PITA.

I used to have a notchy 5-speed and on cooler mornings I had to move off in 2nd since I couldn’t even get it into first. I don’t know what the Cayman has, but I changed out the dino oil transmission fluid with the Redline synthetic got smooth shifting. http://www.redlineoil.com/products_g...p?categoryID=7

Grasshopper - As others have said, this is pretty normal, even if you had the regular shifter, it would be stiffer in cold temps. When I was in Topeka for Croctoberfest, it was 30-33 degrees in the morning, and it was noticeably more stiff. That said, you should talk to your dealer to see if there's something they could recommend. I wouldn't change the fluid to anything else without their blessing - if something does go wrong with your transmission in the future, it could (but not necessarily) be a reason for them to deny warranty coverage.

Thanks Gang,

Yeah, it's a PITA...

J993...I had a hard time getting the car into first the other day...well, at least I'm glad it's normal. I think I will check with the dealer...
