The Cayman's roof...

Anybody know why there are these strips running on the sides on the roof on the Cayman S? Is it because the car's roof was riveted/glued etc? I also notice them on 997s. I'm hoping to have this roof replaced for a carbon fiber one, with perhaps a functional small roof vent.

I believe those are tracks to install the roof top carrier.

Yes that is the roof carrier. If you look at the photos here you can see it and see how big the carrier appears relative to the car.

Russ,

You are correct! Can't wait to see that Cobalt Blue Cayman, a perfect color for HI. The racks are for cyclists here in Austin, naturally.

Carmon Red,

I know I will love my cobalt, but I ahve to say that Carmon Red is one of the most beautiful colors I have ever seen on any car. I think I told you that I saw it on a Carrera over here, well I saw it again at the shopping center and fell in love with it, but a month too late.

I will sure look forward to seeing some pics of your car!

Don't the 911s have the same roof "rails" for rack attachments?

Really? I had no idea. I'm not really going to use a Porsche as a U-Haul and I find them a bit too much - They dont look clean with the car. Any way to get rid of them?

(In dumb accent) Hah Hah Hah tat's soo funni he. You should go to stand-up comedy. Taht was soo funni. (If you shouldn't tell, I was sarcastic)

Sorri, I'm new to Porsche. I honestly didn't know that you would be - offended by a new guy not knowing what those strips are. Thank goodness that kevozzi, the King of the Porsche purists, had told me a few suggestions.

But Really, sorri if I offended you and for being completey ignorant of German Engineering. By typing it all in capitals, I believe you were pretty pissed off and angry @ me. Again, Sorri... sheesh!

Crazy,

I don't think that you have offended anyone. It is really easy to misread the intent of a post. We have to look at it as all in fun. I been looking at the dumb seam and never thought to even question it. You have a acute vision for things like that and saw it as unattractive and now that you mentioned it, it is! And who is gonna put racks on their Cayman? Well I probably shouldn't say that because someone reading this right now is probably saying I am #%$hole!

Yes the 997 has the same lines in the roof and rack mounting points, so did the previous generation 996's for what it is worth...
