Cool Snork - Remove v Retain?

Forgive me if this is 'old hat'. Is it recommended to completely remove the snorkel pipe to get maximum air intake? Im curious why we would leave it in save for some kind of water deflection....

When you look at the right hand side grille you see a clear aperture with a fan and no obstructions. Hence my question as to why we wouldnt remove the sonorkel pipe to completely clear the aperture.

Any thoughts sincerely appreciated.

I don't think it's the right side grille you need to worry about. I believe the right side is merely an heat vent. The air intake is located on the left side. If you take a look at the left grille, you'll see a restrictor plate.

Interpol is right. It's the 'left' (driver side) vent that has the restrictor plate to the intake.

ttommasan - At great risk, (a small joke) I will ask you to please search on the de-snork term - there is a literal mountain of info already here for you to read - why?/Why not? dyno results, how-to articles with step-by-step pictures... please do it and you'll be richly rewarded.

beez: I for one appreciate you directing ttom to search for info. I still can't figure out why some people criticized this approach; the guy wanted info, and you sent him to the right place(s) to find it - what's not to like?

Sorry guys - you misunderstood my question. I have removed the restrictor plate and wanted to know if its worth also removing the snorkel 'tube' to increase the air flow capability. I already did some research but couldnt find any discussion on retaining the snorkel pipe or doing away with it. What do you reckon? My point about the right side was merely that the aperture is clear and not restricted.

Thanks in advance

Someone I know with a Boxster did that and didn't like the results because the airflow was disrupted by taking that tube out. The resulting opening isn't a lot bigger, but the cavity shape changes and the airflow isn't smoothed out it is actually disturbed so I'd vote to leave the tube in.

Wouldn't removing the pipe also allow the car to suck hot air from the engine area? If so, that would most definitely result in less power.

It won't matter in any practical sense for flow. Mine does rattle, however, when I hit about 110MPH it "vibrates" terribly at high speed due to the increased flow / turbulence in the vent area.
