Desnork vs. Intake. Just a thought

So hear me out on this.

Assumption #1: all dyno results mentioned hereafter are true. I trust K-Man S and what he does so...

When K-Man S dynoed the desnorking, he found a double digit power gain.

People started to think that it made a significant difference in power. There were those who disagreed, however, K-Man S found positive results.

Fast foward to croctoberfest, I believe one of the members got an intake, then subsequently dynoed with a desnork, and found that the desnork only added 1 hp, which is negligible at best.

Going with both of these facts being true, could it be that one who desnorks is getting the same air flow increase as one who adds an intake.

I understand that my knowledge on air flow is limited and it might be too loose of an assumption to say that both do the same thing which is maximizing air flow into the car but by different methods.

So it begs the question, if one desnorks, is an intake needed?

Interesting hypothesis, to sort this out probably would need dynos from a few cars with (1) desnork, but stock intake, (2) no desnork, intake mod,
(3) desnork and intake mod.

Slightly related, I followed the recent thread on concerns about oil-based air filters and I e-mail'd EVO if they had any tests done on filtering ability compared to paper, but they didnt reply.

Cheers,

Lee
