I've been trying to get a better match of the light color between the fog light (H11), the HID low beam lights, and the city light (H6W). The city light is on in the fog light cluster when the low beams are on, but is a yellow tone, much different than the HID color. I've been working with Andreas at Hoen USA, and have hit the wall. The only manufacturer making H6W is Phillips with a 3300K temp light, which I believe is the bulb supplied by Porsche. My options seem to be to find an LED light for that application, or to jury rig a fix using a 997 city light. Anyone out there know how to choose the right LED fixture? Andreas says I need a BAX9 base with offset pins, and 3-6 LED's on each head. I've gone to the http://www.ledtronics.com / website and its all Greek to me.
I just did a phillips gen 4 8000k HID upgrade to my halogens (without resistors and I don't get an error). I also got the H11 xenon match fogs from Hoen. As far as the city lights go....you can just pull them and it will not set an error off. Unlike the lowbeams and the parking lights, (parking lights I'm not sure of, just read on this forum) you can pull the city lights without getting any error. I'll post pics if I can get a chance.....
P.S. If you're really bent on having city lights....they have LED's called BA9x....the x stands for how many led's on the bulb...(for ex. BA95 has 5 led's). Anyway...you can get these and stick them in the socket without any problems. (no error message, did the same for my MB city lights. Though, on the MB, I did get an error message when either removing or replacing the stock city light bulb with an LED. Not the case for our caymans) They have the same connection that H6W do. WARNING: Do not buy these led's from Autoillumination. I went through more than 10 of them from that comapany for my CLK. All burnt out very quickly.
P.P.S. If you do decide to just pull the bulb, do be sure to plug the connector back into the housing so that you don't get any moisture in there.
Disclaimer: I have not used any products from this site. I have heard good things though. I have heard better things about www.ultraleds.co.uk, but can't seem to find the bulbs on their site. Like I mentioned earlier, I kind of gave up on this project becuase they kept burning out, but from my understanding it was due to the resistor I had installed to get rid of the lamp out message. Lucky for us, we don't need resistors on our caymans!!! (for our city lights, that is) So I would definitely give it a go, when I get around to it!
