APR Tuned Cayman Upgrades

We have sent up our Cayman to APR for them to manufacture a full Power Upgrade consisting of a Full Exhaust, ECU Upgrade and Intake. They are estimating a power increase of 35-40HP. They will be running it on the dyno and we should have the results in 2 weeks.

APR is a very well known tuner in the Audi and Volkswagen market. This should be a high quality product.

I will be updating this thread with further details of this venture.

Sounds great....APR are very well respected.

Any idea how much this package would cost yet?

They don't have any pricing yet as this is still in the manufacturing stage. I beleive it will be in Production fairly quickly. Hopefully by the time we get our car back we will have some pricing.

We received our Cayman back from APR on Sunday and it is amazing. They installed a full exhaust and ECU upgrade. The car sounds great. Some mentioned that the exhaust may be to loud but I think it is perfect. It is not loud at all until you rip it open into the higher RPM's. It gave the car a 29HP increase to the wheels and the power difference is very noticeable. We should be receiving the Dyno results soon and we will post accordignly.

Our car is currently being fitted with the Techart GTS bodykit and pictures of the exhaust and video of the exhaust note will be posted soon.

Congrats on the car and apr is pretty well known in the Audi circuit for sure. Post pix when you can. Also how is the resonance? Have you tested it in 6th gear at 70mph.... The louder exhausts tend to drone at that point.

Thanks Sharkster. They are well known in the audi market and are now entering the Porsche Market also. I think they have an excellent product.

The resonance isn't to bad. Where I am experiencing a little resonance is in 3rd gear in the 2-3K RPM range.

I'm gonna get the APR CHIP too then.

My Audi has the stage 3 kit, I love it. Did APR have the same options as the audis? Fault code erase, throttlebody adaptation, valet mode, octane programs?

First off, Hello everyone! My first post, woot!

Yes! Our dme recalibrations will most certainly include all of our patented emcs capabilities that many of you may have enjoyed with the previous ownership of a VW or Audi.

Tomas won't be able to speak of this additional dme functionality however as our process is to first develop performance data for every octane level or program option and then integrate the additional dme functionality at a later time. Tomas' Cayman was returned to him to meet an unrelated deadline in Miami and we certainly wanted to make sure we did not interfere with this happening for him.

We have since accomplished the switching integration and will soon have full production recalibrations available that will encompass all of our switching features. We will offer 5 recalibration options and additional dme functionality features as well.

Typically we offer a choice of these recalibrations:

Exact OEM Stock Programming
91 octane specfic performance recalibration
93 octane specfic performance recalibration
100 octane specfic performance recalibration
Valet Mode

The client may choose to have 4 of these recalibrations loaded to the dme at a time. The client can then use his/her cruise control to cycle amongst the different recalibrations as situations present themselves that are best for each recalibration.

For example, daily driving would require either 91 or 93 octane specific programming dependent upon the gas quality in your area. A trip to the track may allow for more powerful output by selecting the 100 octane recalibration whereas 100 octane fuel is typically available at most tracks. Valet is useful for any circumstance that irresponsible operation may result in unwanted damage or even unwanted enjoyment. In valet mode the vehicle will not exceed 4500 rpm's and timing is lowered to reduce power significantly. Stock mode is useful for dealership visits to ensure no interference with any diagnostic tools or technician processes during warranty repairs.

We will also have available added features such as fault code erase, throttle body alignment, security lockout and anti-theft. All recalibrations and features are activated via the cruise control instantaneously with no need for any clumsy external devices or delays in operation while the vehicle is "reflashed".

This discussion is a little premature at this point so please expect much more detailed info in the near future. I will be happy to answer any questions however, the best I can.

Keith,

Welcome to the forum! Nice to have APR represented around here. I have always had good experiences with your Audi products.

Quick questions:

1. Can you confirm that the 29rwhp gain experienced by Tomas was for - catback, headers and flash all together?

2. Any pictures of the catback yet?

3. Will it accept stock Cayman S tips?

4. Do you have a sound clip of the exhaust?

Thanks!

(1) Is the pricing for this going to be similar to the Audi prices, and (2) if one wanted to set up with four programs, as you describe, would one have to pay $500ish for each one? ($500 for a valet mode, e.g. )

Will,

Thanks for the kind words.

1. I will post the dyno plots as soon as the products are released for sale. The quoted gains were from the entire program we developed with Tomas' Cayman. Specifics of the modifications included in the program will be released with the dyno plots.

2. I have some pictures that I can release at time of official launch.

3. This is a very good question that I will address after the launch.

4. A sound clip will be in the official release info as well.

I apologize that I don't have the info you request. I appreciate the time you took to ask and I hope to be able to answer soon.
