Like most of you I wished that my cayman chirped when i locked it. I also didnt want to spend an extra 300 dollars more on a very expencive car just for a chirp. So i found out a way that you can make it chirp by deactivating the sensor that sees if the glove compartment is open or closed.
by deactivating the glove compartment chirp, you also need to deactivate the glove compartment light to avoid battery drainage.
4 steps:
1. Open the glove compartment box. you will see an extending "arm" on the right. pull the tip towards you it will detach.
2. Look in the glove compartment at the upper left corner there is a circular plastic piece. put your hand behind it, close a little the GC(glove compartment) and push it outwards(you have to flex the plastic with moderate force) so that the restraining piece can get out of its trail.
3. now the GC can open a lot more. if you have bose not so much because of the subwoofer. Look behind it you will see the little sensor with a metallic "switch". push the metallic piece very slightly to your right so it doenst hit the white button when you close the GC. It is totally reversable.
4. deactivate the light. to open it you have to stick a very thin metal thing in it to release it. watch out i broke mine but it still stays in. but the arm back in and your done!!!!
huray finally I can make the thing BEEP for free!!!!
good luck!!
cons: no light when you open your glove compartment and you dont know if the hood or the trunk is open
I understand what you're trying to do here, but what I don't understand is that in accomplishing getting a "chirp" to confirm the setting of your alarm, you could possibly be leaving your car insecure. Isn't the point of having a confirmation of setting your alarm/security system being able to feel secure in the knowledge that the car buttoned-up and totally secure. Sorry, but this just seems so counterintuitive to me.
By defeating this you don't know the "state" of your car and I agree with the prior two posters that you don't want to do this just to get a chirp. What about when you unlock? For example you lock your car, get your glovebox hack chirp, put your key in your pocket and it presses the unlock and your car is now unlocked. If you aren't looking at your car how will you know? The Mods4Cars solution not only handles lock and unlock, but it also preserves the state of your car and reports that as well, for example upon locking it will give 3 chirps if the glovebox is open, trunk, etc. I think I said before that if you are concerned about the price of the Mods4Cars unit that there are probably enough new members here who don't have one yet to organize a group buy and get the cost down some. The last group buy they went for $199 each.
Mods4Cars
Mods4cars was founded in 2002 with the idea to add a highly demanded feature to the otherwise almost perfect Porsche Boxster: Comfort One-Touch roof operation while driving at slow speeds. The resulting product offered not only that, but also allowed quick and easy installation by just swapping out a relay box, thus leaving no traces and no permanent changes on the vehicle. The first smartTOP roof controller was born.
Thanks for posting this... To the responders, I think he already listed the cons and never claimed an amazing solution. It's just a "hack".
And for the record, I don't think it is necessary to push sponsor products so aggressively. I understand that the forum needs them, but I do sense a protective, commericial air to some of these posts.
The beep-on-lock is nice, but there are many more benefit of the Mods4cars "remote key" for the Cayman. Most are discussed elsewhere, but I found another one that solved a problem for me.
I had my "mods4cars" remote key installed (along with at least 7 others at the Croctoberfest) last Croctober. It has surpassed my expectations. I perviously had a "glitchy" key that sometimes failed to open either trunk and sometimes opened the wrong one. I think it must have been noise on the receiver. The Mods4cars "remote key" addressed another proplem. People complained about accidently opening the boot while fishing for change in the pocket with their Porsche key (car parked 30 feet away). To fix this the "remote key" requires a couple of seconds of button depression before unlatching either trunk. This fixed the "open by mistake" problem - and it fixed my glitchy receiver circuit by requiring an extended "on time". This is just one of the good things about this product. I highly recommend it!
