Sunday drive with Cayman

Hi all,
just thought I'd share some photos from this past weekend. I took the gator on a drive up Highway 9 here in the SF Bay Area for the first time since my wheels/suspension/exhaust mods -- it's a beautiful road for an early sunday drive. The engine sounded awesome, and handling was amazing as usual. I don't really push the car hard as this is a public road, so the only difference I could objectively notice was no tire squeal at higher speeds around corners -- my intent was to mostly hear the new Millteks. I was indeed able to take turns a bit faster, but did experience slight oversteer (maybe the new swaybars?) right as I was close to exiting -- prolly not used to the new setup.

in any case, here are a couple of pics. And I decided to "ghetto rig" my tripod and digital cam so I can take a short vid of my drive - video quality is **** since I had to shrink it, but oh well maybe next time I'll use a real video camera. enjoy!

slik,

Thanks for sharing the pics. Sunday certainly was a beautiful day for a drive. I'll bet the road was pretty clean after the heavy rain on Saturday. Hwy 9 brings back fond memories from my motorcycling days. I'm looking forward to testing the route in the Cayman, albeit without the knee dragging!

Hi Balboa,

it was definitely a great drive and surprisingly the road was very dry. I tend to go earlier and earlier these days since there are so many people/motorbikes/ cars out there (this shoot was around 7:15 - 7:30 in the morning). I used to take my Vette up there often but now it feels very "wide" for that road after driving the Cayman a few times. Maybe I'll see you around at Alice's one of these days.

Happy driving!!

slik,

I noticed the dash mounted iPod in the video. What's your set up? How well does it work? Thanks.

Here ya go: http://www.ccwheel.com
John (owner) and Chip are great guys -- awesome service and reasonable pricing.

these are CCW T-10 ... the CCWs are pretty popular in the Corvette forum; I don't think people really use these in the PCar world.

Here's the link to the post when I first got the mods:

Cayman back from surgery (pics)

in short:
Milltek exhaust system (headers, cats, muffler)
EVO intake
H&R sway bars
PSS9 coilovers
CCW rims on Michelin PS2's

Yeah this is sort of a ghetto-rigged holder as well... I had bought this generic ipod holder called "Bracketron" from Best Buy

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1099394978886

You're really supposed to have this "installed" by drilling small holes in your vehicle and just screwing it into place. I didn't want to drill any holes into the center console, so what I ended up doing was just wedging the included metal plate between my glove box and the console:

1) open glove box door
2) carefully wedge the metal plate between console and glove box
3) close the glove box door to "tighten" the hold.

There's enough tension to keep it in place WHEN THE GLOVE BOX IS CLOSED ... if I open the glove (which is rarely, especially while I'm driving), I just have to make sure that the holder/iPod doesn't slide out of place or fall.

There are prolly more elegant ways to do this, but I had this holder originally for my other car so it was pretty much a sunk cost. It does hold up to "spirited" driving though -- it's never moved out of position.
