A Sunday Drive with a 997TT

ChrisN--with his 700hp 997 Turbo--and I in my CS went for a drive this morning. The core part of the drive was heading west on Del Puerto Cayman--I mean "Canyon" --road and Mines Rd:

The map makes the road look much straighter than it really is. Fifty miles of twists, turns, dips and crests.

I've posted two videos from the trip.

In this one, ChrisN is leading, and about 30 secs in, drops the hammer and takes off. Mind you we're doing about 70mph at the time and he simply rockets away. 700 hp will do that. A few seconds later, we had a minor fatality: A bird flew right into Chris' path. You can't see it on the tape.

Gentleman that he was, Chris let me drive the beast on the freeway and encouraged me to floor it in 3rd at 60. Even without the "overboost" on, the car jumped to 130 in what seemed like 4-5 seconds. Addictive.

Here, I'm leading and ChrisN is following.

If you're interested in doing a drive, let me know.

Sorry I missed the drive. I had to fly out in the AM Sunday. Your laugh when he pulls away conveys what is hard to appreciate in a video...just how freaking quick that car is.

Great videos. I love the "wing-cam".

Look fun. I've seen Chris' car at the track and that thing is a beast.

I tried to go out for a drive this weekend too, but as soon as I got out of town work called and my wife called me back in. I was pretty pissed off.

It was a fun drive indeed-- you really know your backroads! I'm disappointed that you didn't get a clearer shot of that poor bird.

Also, for the record, the 60-130MPH time for the 997TT w/ EVT700 kit is about 7 secs flat. That makes it about even with an Enzo and a bit faster than a Carerra GT.

Which one, the sick fast Porsche in front or the dead bird left behind?

Nice run. I wish we had roads like that here in DC. Then again, I guess it wouldn't be DC.

Thanks for sharing and that dual camera setup is awesome.

regards

ken
