I'd go so far as to say this is one of the best mods I've seen if you want your car to look like a street racer.

I prefer the Caymans Curves in their natural form, the mods I'll put on my car will be felt by the driver but not seen

wow...your guys are out of control...the car looks hot.....Stock does not make it the best guys....different does....

its only a cayman...a dime a dozen around here....nothing worse that pulling into a cosco to get dog food, and seeing 3 cars just like yours....

99.5% of the comments above do not sound like they come from car enthusiasts, they sound like they come from people who "just bought a porsche"

My CS is about my 10th Porsche from many different years along with a smattering of BMWs, Audis, and other performance cars thrown in for good measure,......so I am definitely a car enthusiast.

Making something different for difference sake doesn't make it better, just different. The factory did a fantastic job on the Cayman styling and Porsche offers just about a million ways to make each one original and unique.

On the contrary, bastardizing it with a bunch of tacky add-ons and wacky looks is often the way a lot of first time Porsche owners glean even more attention to their "look what I got" ego.

IMO.....the wing is just fine for a race prepped car and is very well executed, but that front spoiler is absolutely hideous. On the street it would most likely come across as rice. I've seen some very nice modified Porsches, this isn't one of them. To each his own though.

Another view

I used to have one of those front ends, and the side skirts, on my CS. Looked great but I had a heck of a time with the tips of the front end grinding no matter how hard I tried to be careful...

It looks MUCH better in black...

Old pics before I put on my PSS9's and lowered the car a bit BTW...

To each his own. This is GT Street style, and from that perspective, it's great looking. If your perspective is a gentleman's car, then your opinion might be different.

Try selling this car at an auction in 25 years. Worthless. IMO one looses money on the value of something like a Porsche by modding like this. Its money wasted in my book. If one has a view that a Posche is a toy to be played with, then so be it. I personally don't. Sorry to disagree with some here. Its my nature to enjoy the Porsche as a refined highly tuned instrument, much as any fine instrument and tend to leave well enough alone.

A car is worth its most at the time it is first paid for, then later it may (but more times not) come back as classic. I see this car much as the Jaguar XKE, a relatively high volume (for its time) beautiful sports car. IMO the prettiest of the affordable Porsche lineup. In 25 years when all you can afford is a Ford Escort electric, this car will be a classic.

Of course the Carrera GT will be the most reviered. (of current day cars)

I would have to defer to Craig at Renn on this one cause he has alot more experience with cars than I ever will AND he saw it in person which may make a big difference since we're only seeing pics. I've always been a fan of classic Porsche looks. I think that's one of the best things about a P car. But I won't fault a guy for trying to prissyup his ride...within reason.

IMHO:

Never cared for the front clip but the rockers are ok.
Wheels-OK, subjective.
Rear wing-BIG. Definately adds a track/performance look.
Taillight lenses-interesting interpretation

I like the black and yellow treatment. The smoked windows look good.

What about black side vents?

Typically I HATE pimped/modified Porsches.
But the wing is actually functional, unlike much of the **** out there.

The car looks all of a piece and well unified.......it actually caught my "car conservative eye", which is unusual -

But it IS all subjective, isn't it?

Hi Rob, First let me say that I ABSOLUTELY concede that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that my opinion in this case is no better nor worse than anyone elses, but if I was concerned about resale value at auction 25 years from now I'd have bought a rare classic Mustang/Camaro/GTO etc and then tucked it away in climate controlled storage to continue its already proven appreciation.

Cars are meant to be driven, not parked in a garage with a battery tender attached... I bought my Porsche TO DRIVE IT, ENTHUSIASTICALLY, and in doing so I quickly found that there were things about it that I didn't like or that simply could have/should have been better on a $70k 2 seater mid engine European sports car wearing a Porsche hood emblem. Some were just Porsche things (some good, some bad), some were just part and parcel of having a 987, others were what we have all come to see as deliberate efforts by Porsche to enforce "family lines" performance wise, and some appear to be simple engineering compromises most likely driven by accountants.

So, I like many others decided to make some changes; Both performance and aesthetic. Ultimately it doesn't really matter if anyone other than the person who owns the car likes the look or agrees with the performance enhancements... I will however say that, in my opinion, anyone who thinks that there is no way to "improve" on a Porsche off the show room floor, or any other car for that fact, has been blinded by the brand and is ignoring reality and HISTORY.

Even the Carrera GT can and HAS been improved on... "Improved" being a subjective term, though with decidedly "objective" components evidenced by performance metrics/data...

Not trying to flame anyone here. Just voicing a dissenting opinion.

Thanks for the polite reply.

I don't disagree with your right to own and therefore do with your property whatever you will. But in a way I am a purist. I had a '65 GTO, and I drove it like it was to be driven. I over reved the engine once going flat out racing another GTO on the interstate as a kid, and although the 120 MPH speedo was peggged past that, I calculated from the RPM (about 6500 RPM) with a 3.23 rear end I was doing 150 MPH. Scared the death out of me, and never did it again, only to lose my licence later speeding. "Son the speed limit was 50, I was doing 80 and you were pulling ahead," says the KY state police officer.

Great car. I would love to see it again. LIke it was the day it came from Pontiac just as I had ordered it. (I almost removed and kept the front console for sentimentality. I remember sitting on that with a pillow under me, my beautiful girl friend on top, one knee buried in each bucket. Forever etched in my mind) I love seeing the car shows where they bring a pristeen example on and an expert points out how such and such is original, such and such isn't, and I love it. I like to see it like it would have been sitting on the showroom floor. Thats why I love car shows. Now some cars are coming up as collectable "muscle cars", but I remember them new on the showroom floor. I test drove them. I dragged raced the 442s, Malibu SSs, Gran Sports. The C3 Corvette simply blew me away.

I have sense become more of a purist. If I were to buy a used car, I would want it to be as original as possible. So I have chosen to keep my car as original as possible, and where not, I keep the original parts, for the buyer. I once sold my E 30 M3 to a lady. I had modified the stereo with an expensive but great sounding system, but on selling it I had returned it to stock. There were a few small holes in the inside door panels where I had attached speakers, and the lady bought replacement door panels to make the car 100 % stock. I learned the value of a selling an original car.

I submit that there are few cars on this forum, that I would buy due to the high degree of modifying that people are doing. I would buy new instead. It won't be long before the first edition Caymans will be no more. Probably happen in MY'10. Some will keep theirs original, and at some point in time another Jay Leno will be driving it in a program pointing out why it was such a great car.
I think preservation of the original form of things has value. So I will keep mine for future generations original. But to each his own, life is to be enjoyed, money is nothing if you can't spend it on things you enjoy. Automotive modifying companies have owners with kids, they need your business. That is one good thing about the freedom we enjoy here and the means to enjoy that freedom.

OK getting too sentimental and overly mushy now. Gotta go

Just my opinion.
