So if you had followed my question yesterday about what should i do with regards too my car you will now relise that i have exchanged my Gorgous Guards Red 2.7 Cayman with the equally sexy 19" Classic alloys for the Beautiful
Design Edition 1 Cayman S # 632/777
I have on a very limited basis driven this car as it has been purchased from my father who has put 3452 miles on the clock since he took collection of it on 23rd December 2007. I am fully aware of the treatment the car has had, My dad is a very compitant 'excited' driver and it has only been washed twice in his ownership once by me ( for a magazine shoot in local press that is out this month) and once by Porsche when it was in for a new tyre. The interior has never been cleaned. So you now have my Basis.
Last night i took delivery of it, (My Dad being the most amazing father in the world anyway has taken the Guards Red in part Exchange until he desides his next move. softening the blow on me for depresiation) We agreed a deal and i took the keys and ran. I got home and gave the care a normal 'Quick' clean so i could make out what colour it was never mind what model it was, and valeted the inside, i paid a good bit of attention to the wheels and brake calipers.
I then headed out to see my friend who lives out of the city and in the country with some fabulous roads.
Automatically i knew i had made the right decision ever bone in my body tingled when with out realising i hit high figures, i now know it is going to be an effort to stay on the right side of the law. The Clutch is heavier the 6speed gearbox is harder, the suspension is firmer the ride does feel more focused as the steering is more focused and the engine bloody growls at the higher RPM, i had De-snorked the 2.7 but the 3.4 un- de snorked is louder.
Then for the first time in the cars life i pressed on the
PASM button, OMG.....
It just ate roundabouts like they werent there, it was very harsh but i have never driven anything like it, so firm again, focussed on its job in hand and also the steering got heavier in my opinion which added to my confidence that the car was firmly planted on the road. I fell in love at that moment, i swear it. I think that as i get used to the car this will be my Ace up my sleave when it comes to the inevitable on the roads and i think it would make life tricky for 300hp cars too shake me off with this little ace up my sleaves.
I am ashamed as i didnt believe performance would come into the Cayman with me but it has, The Cayman S is a wild animal that is seriously on the breaking point of turing into a complete uncontrollable animal, 10x that of a Previous Carrera 4 my dad had. I t is night and day differant that the 2.7 infact you wouldnt believe they are fundimentaly the same car. I loved my old 2.7 but the DE is something else and has me craving to go faster and tighter round corners i want to push it and it feels like it could take anything i throw at it. I now cant wait to put the
Borla on this and get into Carrera 997 munching teritory.
My only bad point was the brakes, they didnt feel as sharp as they should of, the car has sat for a month so i am hoping it was through lack of use, but didnt feel like my old Box S or even 2.7 cayman. I will book it in at OPC and get them too check it out.
So now i am looking forward too the weekend to get a proper clean from claying to waxing. Unfortuatly it is raining today however i will prob take it for a good drive before soccer tonight.
Thanks for reading
James

PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
|
 |
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.
