I have an all black Cayman, my Mom has a DE1. Since I am absolutely meticulous about the looks of my car, I am also responsible for keeping her car up to par when it is warranted.
I have tried a couple different things to work with the stripes.
First time I detailed the car I finished with
Ultima Paint Guard Plus. I was drawn to it for the ease of use and it being synthetic so I wouldn't have to reapply so often. I did not like it. It was fine if a little got on the stripes but it hazed really bad in some section and the hazing did not come off easily. And the finish was not what I expected. Not as glossy as I would have liked.
Next I decided to use what I use on my car:
P21S 100%. This was great, easy application, deep shine, a little less durable cause it is natural, and very little dust. Even so, there was still some residue on the edges of the stripes and I used a horsehair "tooth brush" to gently clean up around the stripes.
I was still looking for a longer lasting, easy application for this car because I don't work on it everyday. So I tried the new
Meguiars NXT2.0 liquid wax. Now this was pretty nice. Even easier to apply than the P21S because it is a liquid and very good deep shine. This stuff is seriously quick to put on and off. And is very close to the P21S. But had some slight hazings in places I would not have noticed if I hadn't been using P21S at the same time on my car. With regards to the stripes, it did seem to darken the stripes where it accidentally got on them so you have to be very careful.
Final decision: Well, my Mom loves the clean look of my car and she realized that the stripes were a pain to work around and turned a 2 hour job into a 4 hour one. So we all decided to take the stripes off the top of the car. I left the side stripes and work around them. But with no stripes on the hood and trunk, the car looks much cleaner and I can wax the whole car with P21S very easily and much more often.
So there you go. Hope my insight helps.
