There are still a few unsold 2006s out there. This isn't that uncommon. Once the 2007s are out, lots of folks will shy away from the 2006 that's on the lot unless the dealer is willing to get 'crazy' with the price, which they usually aren't real willing to do.
I'd say you have some real leverage on that one, especially since the 2008s are hitting inventory.
It would be unrealistic for me to not point out that if you do buy a 2006, there may be a few first years issues you may have to deal with. In 2006 these included
- A noisey oil pump valve piston (easy fix),
- The trunk clunk issue (there has been an update and this can be easily fixed)
- Cat converters that kicked 'check engine' lights.
- Pressure plate bolts that lossen up
The first three can be easily applied before you take delivery, all under warranty, just ask the dealership to do so if they haven't already. The last issue requires too much labor and affects a small number of cars, so you will have to just take your chances here. But if you should develop a problem, all will be made good under warranty.
Other considerations are:
- TPMS was optional in 2006, so the car may not be equipped with it.
- Cobalt Blue cost $3,090 in 2006, $690 in 2007
- Lapis Blue cost $810 in 2006, $3,090 in 2007
The 2006s are great cars and haven't shown any 'major' issues. Go get it, and get a great deal in the process.
Good luck
