Thoughts on fair value

Hi guys...As my name implies, I am a P-car/Cayman newbie. Time is running out for my S2000 and unfortunately for my wife, I have gotten very interested in the Cayman. Been perusing the net and reading these forums for a little while now.

I am headed to a local dealer this weekend to test drive the car at the attached link. I have read through the Sales/Leasing posts a good deal, and have looked on Edmunds at "what others are paying". For an 06 with ~20k miles, however, it's not clear what the fair market value is right now. Does anyone have opinions?

Also, mileage seems a bit high esp for this car and year. I'm guessing it was an early car off the line. Are there good resources to pull factory date off of the VIN provided?

Park Place Porsche in Dallas, TX Dealer New, Used Cars - Details

Thanks guys!

Hey, I have seen that car personally (if I remember right) and it didnt look like it was that good of shape IMO. Its been on the lot for months.

I had to go to chicago to get a car that I would be happy with because I thought the used selection in DFW area was really poor. However, a decent deal on a new one can be had (I originally had an order for a new one). You should be able to get 5k at the local dealers.

P.S. I got my car for 48k + travel expenses and it was similary (if not better) equipped than this one. It had about 4200 miles on it and clear bra. Granted, I think that was a pretty good deal...but deals can be had on the caymans right now.

If you can wait about 6-8 months...maybe I will sell you mine

Thanks Hozer. I live about 5 mins from Park Place, but have not looked at this one specifically. Just based on reputation, I would not be surprised if they are asking a premium for a mediocre example. At any rate, I'll get a good test drive without having to feel to guilty about ragging out someone else's new car.

Perhaps autobahn would be worthing looking at as well.

Park place supposedly has the best service (maintenance), but probably just average for deals. I think they are a sponsor now, maybe you can leverage off that?

I can't speak to that one in particular, but CS's are going for ~ 62k for 07's and ~ 56k for 06's. Mileage doesn't seem to matter. As it gets closer to the end of the calendar year, they may go down, but I've been tracking a few on Autotrader, and they tend to go quick once the price gets lowered.

It's interesting - I see about 10-12 CS listed on Autotrader in the DFW area. Nearly all of those are at Boardwalk or Park Place and listed in mid-high 50's. I'm assuming those will clear at 5-10% down from the ask.

Be sure and give Dave Campbell at Park Place a call and tell him you are a member of this site and saw them here and you want the club deal. His numbers is 214-443-5272. We have a number of happy members who have purchased from him.
