I've got an S2000 that's lease ends in 8/2008. I'm planning on replacing it with my second Porsche. I would like to order a 2009 but I'm thinking 8/2008 will be a little early.
A few questions.
Those of you who have ordered a Porsche in the past. Could you give me a rough estimate on what month new model years usually show up for delivery?
The S2000 is the only leased car I've ever had so I don't know much about the turning in process. Does anyone have any suggestions for me if I have to wait a month or two after my lease is up? I can't go more than a week or so with only one car. Is it possible to rent a car for a month or two without huge expense?
8/2008 might not be too late. In '07, orders for '08 models began in August. Brochures and official changes weren't available yet, but they can do a blind order.
Usually, the factory closes for the month of August, and the last cars built for the previous model-year are built at the end of June, beginning of July. Then, they usually tool-up for the next model year, and just before they go on vacation, they produce a few cars to hold the dealers over for the down-time, then they resume the next year's model production in earnest in September. Many new options are not available until later in the production run - usually around Oct/Nov so check carefully as to the options you want, and if they'll be available early-on.
Most lease companies will let you extend your lease on a month-to-month basis. As far as turning it in, they'll have someone come out and inspect it for excessive wear and tear, and will sometime charge you to put new tires on it if they're completely worn, and charge you for body damage, carpet stains, etc.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll ask about extending my lease if I need to. I'm getting a 911 this time. Not because I don't like the Cayman but I can't see having two of them. A little variety never hurt anything. I would have asked this in a 911 forum but this is the best Porsche forum on the net. I knew I'd get good answers here.
I have been told by two UK OPC's that I can place a deposit for an '09 model year car in January '08 and the car would be built late August or in September '08. An October / November delivery to England can be expected is what they have said to me
I originally ordered my Cayman in January, 2007 - anticipating an April delivery. But my order for a 2.7/Tiptronic was not accepted by PCNA/PAG until April. My car, an '08 model, was built July 5, 2007 (the first week of builds for model year '08), and I got it the first week of August. I don't know why they made some '08s in July, but it is fine with me. My car is exactly as I originally ordered it, with price also the same (except for slight reduction in the cost of one option [leather inner door sills]).
Of course, there is no guarantee things will be the same in 2008 as in 2007.

They always build some cars before the August break so the dealer pipeline in the US doesn't dry up - by the time the cars get shipped to the US, the new model-year has begun here...they also want to work out any bugs in the assembly of the new model-year cars before the August break, so they can get right down to building them when things get rolling again in September.

Cool! I love 911s, too - had six of 'em over the years before the CS... good luck with it...

As stated earlier, the 2009s will likely come in during september as the first ones are built in early august and then the germans take the month off... this causes some headaches and I never make promises as to when the first of the 2009s come in as I had one get to the port in germany and sit there for a month as their was no one to load it on the boat. I expect changes for 2009... actually I might know of a few... that is all.

Well, tell us what they are. We won't tell anyone, I promise.
