Cayman vs Cayman S Design Edition 1 what to do??

I Love my Guards Red cayman, I especially love the colour and without offending it is my favourite colour on the Cayman, The sole reason i got this model was the Colour/wheel Combo. My Car has only done 13k miles and i still wax every week without fail and i am not bored with it one little bit as i have just ordered the borla Exhaust system and am eagerly awaiting its arrival.

HOWEVER..............................

My Dad has decided he doesnt want his Design Edition CS with 3100 miles on the clock. He says and i quote " Doesnt think it is special enough" He does have a point, it is only appearance wise that it differs from the standard CS.
I have been offered first refusal but with no discount at pure market value. Nearly £50k ($100k )
Now i have never had an issue with 'only' having the 2.7 so my motives for this switch would not be on a performance basis (with exception to the PASM button)

I respect the Design Edition alot and it is incredibly good looking close up where as the Guards red stands out a mile and attracts heaps of attention.

My Question too everyone is 'What would you do?' And i will be honest a big percentage of what i will do will be taken from the answers on this page as each one of us has bought a cayman for all sorts of Different answers.
At the moment i am on the fence, It is the Black that is my only hang up, im sure i would love it too, the rest of the car does do it for me suede - steering wheel, gearknob, handbrake and the internals painted black it all works. Plus i could add the Borla on too it.

This is a serious post and will value every comment, i dont want too hear about people hating the stripes as i like them so that is not a problem too me.

The Actual CS DE1:

I have the CS and had the chance to pick up the Design Edition and the only reason I didn't consider it was the color. Personally, I'm just not into black cars. BUT, I like everything else about the car.

In your case though, you'd be going from the 2.7 to the CS. I never took the 2.7 for a spin but I love the power on the CS. IF you can live with the color of the PDE, I would go for it. Assuming of course you will be getting a good deal from your car and a good deal on the PDE.

And I wish I have the Turbo wheels on mine.

I like your red 2.7 & 19" wheel combination. This is coming from someone who's owned two black cars in the past. If you have any doubts about the looks of the Design Edition I would stick with your car.

You don't mention how quickly you got to 13,000 miles. If this is your daily driver, I'll invoke the cost of petrol issue. Fuel economy isn't the primary motivator in a purchase of a car like the Cayman. Still, it's pretty hard to ignore at $8.00+ a gallon in your neck of the woods.

1) The 2.7 IMO is very similer to the 3.4, except under 4000rpm that is where the majority of difference is with the 2.7 there is no low down torque, I would say after 4000 rpm they r basicaly identical.

2)I had a Black TT view my gallery for pics, and it was just so hard too keep clean literally washed it twice a week and the water marks put me off black

3) I dont mind what i get for mine, it is immaculate the miles are a little higher than average for age. But sure will be ok, it looks brilliant. I have been told by my dad i aint getting a deal( i want it or i dont)

4) Turbo rims are hot, i wouldnt want them on the Guards red Cayman but on the DE1 wouldnt have any other rim.

It was my daily driver ( for a 11months) up until last month now i have only put 300miles on it in 4 weeks. Petrol isnt a problem as my DD is a Petrol V6 Shogun and it loves the fuel.

Was very very close to buying a Design 1 until I placed a deposit on a facelift My 09 for my own reasons.

It was my only choice in the current series as the interior is something very special and really works well with the painted interior, the turbo wheels with the widened track and spacers make it look awesome and for me THIS black Cayman looks the deal even down to the all red taillights.

The question you also might want to ask yourself is when you drive it does it feel a bit more special and more enjoyable than your current 2.7 model!

I guess the other thing is you join a pretty exclusive club with the limited build.

Good luck and remember choices happen in life for a reason.

I used to love black cars - in fact out of all my cars that I have owned only two were not black including my cayman. When they are clean...they look spectacular...but dirty...they look dirty and shows scratches a wee bit more. Now my other cars were not a Porsche, nowhere near, so I did not wash them all too often...so they looked like hell. So if you don't mind washing then I have to say the DE is a very nice looking car.

If you're not into the performance, I would not get it. That's going to be a huge step up in cost just for mostly color options. If you are more interested in improving the look of your car, you could probably spec out a new 2.7 in exactly what color/features you want for less than the DE CS.

If Dad was offering a deal then it's a no brainer, as he is not and you are happy with your car then pass. Other opportunities will come along, perhaps just as you may be tiring of the C and looking for more power.

Right now, based on what you have said, may not be the right time.
