Another in this thread may have mentioned this: isn't there a cost in personal well being by waiting to purchase the CS?
probably safe to assume that the prospective buyer has already factored this in and is more interested in the horsetrading aspect of the deal.
I'm in somewhat the same boat. I'd like a sweeter deal than what's currently out there, and even a grand or two would do the trick because my current car isn't worth as much as I thought it was, so there's a gap I have to bridge. That gives me the inclination to wait until later in the model year or until dealers start punching warranties to get the extra 2-3k off that would make it tough to resist. On the other hand, I want a PDE1 with a few must-have (for me) options, and the longer the wait, the scarcer they are on the ground. All in all, it's rather frustrating to be in this frame of mind.
At this point, I'm probably going to wait a couple of years and pick up a CPO'd PDE1. I don't really care about the goodie box (to me, the interior appointments on the car itself are a terrific combination) or the striping, so the only thing I'd miss is the "new car experience", which in my Mercedes buying experience is kind of overrated. Porsche may be different, but if it ain't, there's no great loss. Benz dealers are basically like DMV windows out here in SoCal; they get your money, you drive away. I've had better experiences buying used cars off ebay.
how difficult is to find a PCCB/PASM equipped sitting on a dealer's lot?
I think it is easier to negotiate over a car already on the lot.
Any sources are appreciated.
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

Just an update.
Today a local dealer was willing to give me something thats slightly under invoice which comes out to a little more 13.2% off MSRP.
The only problem now is the color and also it's got some options I dont want and missing sport chrono.
This is going to be hard. I am at work but thinking about whether I should just drive there and pick that car.
Sport Chrono and Chrono Plus
This optional package is a valuable addition for trackday use. Available in conjunction with the CDR-24 CD radio, it includes a swivel-mounted analog and digital timer unit which is centrally located on the dashboard. All functions are easily accessible via the control stalk for the on-board computer. Analog dials measure hours, minutes and seconds, while a separate digital field displays whole seconds, tenths and one hundredths of a second. A second digital display runs in parallel in the instrument cluster. Click this Link to visit the FAQ entry for Sport Chrono.

Latest update, all of a sudden received a call from the sponsor on this board in Dallas willing to give me 15% off.
This is definitely what I am looking for...still not the number color but the price is pretty good.
Just need to make sure how much the interest rate will be before I go in today to pick up the car.

Would that be Park Place? I might buy one at that price.
Yes, you are correct, they are a sponsor.
Autobahn actually gave me the same offer today as well.
I am still thinking about it, by Monday hopefully I will make up my minds.
And I do mean two minds...haha
The dealer mark up is 12% on most Porsche's. 1K over list is what some dealers will do just to sell units to increase their allotment for the following year as it is based on performance sales.
If 15% is the new 12% as of the end of June, and likely that fever will spread throughout most of the bigger cities' dealerships (i.e. So.Cal) over the next several weeks, I have a serious question that I'd love to hear from some dealership type on:
When dealers begin punching warranties on these 08's, what kind of % reduction from sticker is going to be available? 20, 25? I don't mean "if purchasing in 2009"; I mean, say, around late August or September? If the car appears off the books/sold to Porsche USA for the purpose of securing good new model allocations, and the '09's are starting to roll in (the carreras, at any rate), what's the lay of the land with reasonable selling price (I mean the % off sticker) in a punched but otherwise new Cayman S?
Thanks for your insight.
I found a car I could live with, then it disappeared from the dealer's site leaving me with a few far closer-located cars that are pretty heavily over-optioned to my taste as alternatives, at which point I got over the idea and figured on buying used in a few years; today I saw that the car has reappeared on the dealer's site; unsold and new. Either I had a momentary lapse of reason or they had a web site glitch. At any rate, I could be sold that car for the right price, but it would have to pop; my SL is pretty satisfactory and has a great low payment, despite its being a gasoline hog.
I spent yesterday afternoon at two local dealerships looking at 08 Cayman S models. I was in the dark as to how much of a discount to expect but after finding this forum now I feel a lot more informed.
I'm ready to pull the trigger on a deal, maybe in the next couple of days. Otherwise when I get back from a trip in a couple of weeks as I'm in no hurry.
I live in Southern California and at one of the dealerships I was offered just under 11% off without asking on any Cayman S in the lot. Unfortunately, they don't have the combination of color and options I want. But they're looking around now for me. I didn't ask about ordering one.
Anyway, thanks for the info and I hope to become a frequent visitor especially after I finally trade in my old 964 Cab for my new Cayman!

Did the 11% off offer come from Pioneer Porsche? They have a Meteor Grey/Carerra Red interior S I'm intrested in.
