mrwonder, no it came from Hoehn up north but not on a Meteor Gray because they didn't have one with my preferred configuration. But they're now "looking" for one. If you look at their web site, eseentially all of their S's are being offered with that deal.
I just got off the phone with Pioneer and we discussed their Gray/Red S and I am sure they would be dealing in that range. I like the red interior, but not enough that I would get it for my own car. I prefer the black interior with the gray paint.
The Meteor/Red just went on sale at "7,000 of MSRP" on Pioneer's web. They however replaced the exterior color 19" Carerra S with stock and punched the warranty, so in reality it's more like $2,000.
Who did you deal with there, and did you like him/her?
It appears dealers are less willing to give discounts on an ordered Cayman. I had an offer for $10 K off any Cayman S on the lot, but i want that deal on one I order to my specifications. Does anyone have any insights on how deals are different when you order a Cayman vs. take one off the lot?

I think the best I've heard of an ordered car is around 5-7% off MSRP.
10k off ordered would be crazy, and I would definitely order the car to my taste. That's one thing that I liked about BMW ED, that is you a deep discount for a customed car.

I'm new to the forum today, and new to the idea of buying a Cayman (which I love). Quick question: what does "punching the warranty card" mean? Thanks.
One more newbie question: I've read this entire thread about discounts off of MSRP, etc., and am wondering if the ballpark of 10% off of the MSRP is applicable/realistic for the NY/NJ area too. Seems like many posters are in Texas or CA. Thanks for the help. This website is very helpful.
My local dealer has a 2007 CS with various options pushing the price to $65,360. Options include Lapis Blue Metallic paint, Bose system, floor mats, heated seats, self dim mirrors and rain sensor, auto climate control, remote 6 CD changer, and wheel caps with colored crest. It shows has having the PPA package, which I think includes many of the items here. I believe the warranty has started, but do not believe it is a demo car. What do you think is a fair price?

Thank you.

The PPA package will include all of the options listed except the automatic climate control (about a $500 option) and the CD changer (don't remember the cost). The Lapis Blue is probably a slight uptick too.
I just got an '07 CS (warranty not yet started), comparably equipped for 20% off MSRP plus got them to throw in 2 oil changes, XM Radio installed, and a set of extra wheels for winter tires.
OK, I somewhat wanted to crow about the good deal I got but my main point is that you probably can push for a pretty good deal.

Congrats...that does sound like a good deal.
Saw another CS parked at work, I guess more people buying it cuz of the discounts or something.

DannyZ "punching the warranty card" typcially means the dealership started the warranty so when you buy the car you lose those months on your warranty. Normally the cars have not been titled but been used to promote the cars and not necessarily loaned out as service cars. Usually only driven by the dealership personnel.
also, depending on the dealership, they may punch the warranty if they've got remaining inventory that's not moving yet want better allocations for the coming model year. when the warranty is punched, it's my understanding that the car appears to porsche as "sold", thus improving the dealer's score and getting the dealer better dibs for the next year's cars, while sitting in their parking structure somewhere quietly gathering dust, depreciating, and otherwise waiting for a savvy buyer who's prepared to patiently negotiate a way better deal than the same car would likely sell for unpunched.
also, i have heard of cases where, even though the car is technically (to porsche for warranty purposes) sold as used, dealers will honor the full 4 years' warranty from date of first sale. it's just that the selling dealer is the only one who'll do this in those cases. an argument for buying locally, i suppose!

Robaz38, thanks for the info re: punching the warranty. Makes sense to me now.

I ordered mine in April (being shipped right now!) for $2000 over invoice. Invoice is about $63K, sticker $72K, so $7000 or almost 10% off.
I was offered that price at two different NY dealers.
Thanks, Scoppola. Good to know. I'm going to start shopping with a 10-12% off of MSRP mentality. I realize that many people say to go in with an "invoice" mentality, but I'm too eager for that!

The tough part of negotiating off invoice on cars that have many $1k+ options is that it can be tough getting the invoice in the heat of the negotiations at the dealer, especially if you're deciding between two cars on the lot. I leased mine which makes it a little tougher. What I do instead is crunch numbers on a small range of prices with nothing down and the best lease or finance numbers available. When the dealer comes back with their computer print out (which seem to never have the money factor and residuals as a percent on there) I atleast know if best money factor and residual is being used for the given negotiated price.
