Everyone fixates on price but never questions the condition of the car. Was it wrecked? How was it used? Can you talk to the previous owner to verify the "story"? What is the condition of the tires, rotors, brakes and other parts the new owner is responsible for? Is the advertised accessory list correct? What are other dealers selling the same car for? There is a lot more to due diligence than grabbing a price!

Agreed.
I have not verified, but I was told it was never wrecked and was simply a matter of the CS not being the car she thought it was when she bought it. For all intents and purposes the car is new; perfect interior and exterior. Finish is in excellent condition (even under harsh gas station lights). Tires looked brand new; was not able to verify brake/rotor condition. I looked on Ebay and saw similarly speced models going for high $50s - brand new though.
I sent an offer of $48k over this evening and was told that the 'original sticker on the car was over $63k' and 'we are not close to being on a deal' and that my offer 'is what an 2006 CS would bring' finally that we are 'way too far apart'.
Honestly, I am not sure how they expect to get close to $54k for it.
Personally, I'd let them sit on the offer for awhile. The longer the vehicle sits on the lot the more they're willing to deal. Maintain contact with the sales person to let them know you're still interested and if they come down in price, that you'll consider it.
In the meantime, go shopping!! Go check out other dealers. Don't rule out buying new. You'd be surprised what you could get. This way, with whatever car you finally end up with, you know you got the best deal possible. Also, I strongly believe, that the discounts dealerships give you is partially dependant on the area you live in (and the competition).
Sounds like the dealer is just trying to work you over. $48K is not even close to $54K "with some room"? Gimme a break! Granted, there's a good chance someone else will buy it for close to asking price, but I would not.
I would stick to your guns at $48 and not a penny more. Stay in contact with the salesman. Let him know that you are interested in getting it, but at $48 thousand, because it had been punched, is used, and the newer facelift is coming out in 2010. Just say 2010, because he will bs you by telling you that it's not coming out for two more years, when it's coming out in 2009.
In the mean time, drop by other Porsche dealerships in the area, or call the ones near by your state to look for other deals.
EDIT: And I sincerely doubt that the previous owner was a woman. It seems like all previous owners of cars are all woman. A woman would most likely have purchased an automatic CS and not a stick. No offense to any woman here who loves driving a stick shift. I'm just trying to help by pointing out a few things.

Let us know if there are any updates. The market seems to be lagging right now. I'm trying to sell my 08 and have gotten pricing guidance all over the map. I guess one of the issues is they seem to be send less over here this year.

I agree that demand is weak but so is future supply. Yours at $51K is a good deal; I'm just not ready to go with a black-on-black again. Looks great, but just too hard to maintain for me.
Completely understand I'm not 100% on selling it yet though. It's hard to give up and I've pretty much decided to keep it until the GTR gets here which may be as much as a year away so I'm certainly not in a hurry. Have had dealers tell me I should advertise it from $49-56K. It's funny how different dealers because of their geographic location, allotment, and clientele have such differing views of the market. One dealer here in Houston is going around and buying up other dealers 911 inventory because they can't get any from pcna!

You guys are all nuts. No dealer is going to discount a Cayman S for less than $52,000. They are buying them at auction for 46-47K and need to make a profit. They can nopt afford to just add a couple of grand and sell it. How do you think they pay for the overhead and costs of carry?
