First Post - just purchased 08 CS @ Boardwalk in Plano
This is my first post on the Cayman Club site. I have been researching CS's for a while now. I recently sold an 87 930 and after driving a friends 06 CS I was hooked.
I went in to Boardwalk to look at a nice 06 CS that was for sale, and the salesman indicated that he had a couple of demo's that they were trying to move. Fairly high miles for a 08 (6200 Dallas traffic miles), however they were knocking $16k off the sticker. Options include Basalt black paint, Bi-zenons, 19" Carrera Sport wheels, Bose, Heated seats and and sport chrono w/out PSM. Sticker was $66,625 and I paid $50,625. I drove the car 300 miles home to west texas and I think it was a good deal?
Sport Chrono and Chrono Plus
This optional package is a valuable addition for trackday use. Available in conjunction with the CDR-24 CD radio, it includes a swivel-mounted analog and digital timer unit which is centrally located on the dashboard. All functions are easily accessible via the control stalk for the on-board computer. Analog dials measure hours, minutes and seconds, while a separate digital field displays whole seconds, tenths and one hundredths of a second. A second digital display runs in parallel in the instrument cluster. Click this Link to visit the FAQ entry for Sport Chrono.
PSM - Porsche Stability Management
While it can’t overcome the laws of physics, the revolutionary Porsche Stability Management (PSM) system does lend an added degree of balance and control to the Cayman’s mid-engine driving dynamics, inspiring surefooted confidence in corners and extreme situations.
A standard feature on the Cayman and Cayman S, PSM continuously monitors steering input, road speed, yaw velocity and lateral acceleration to calculate the actual direction of travel. If the car begins to steer off line, PSM instantly intervenes with precision brake inputs on individual wheels to help bring the car back onto the driver’s intended path.
If braking alone isn’t enough to correct the vehicle’s cornering line, PSM then calls on the Cayman’s engine management system, adjusting engine output as needed to help stabilize handling. PSM can also compensate in an instant for mid-corner changes in load resulting from deceleration or braking. When Sport mode is selected with the optional Sport Chrono Package, PSM’s threshold for intervention is raised, allowing for greater driver involvement. If you prefer driving without automatic PSM assistance, the system can be set to standby at any time. In this case, it will only intervene under heavy braking, where both front wheels exceed the ABS threshold.
For all of its technical ability, PSM goes virtually unnoticed in everyday driving situations, preserving the Cayman’s natural agility.

I was looking at a very similar car at Boardwalk a few weeks ago. Almost identically optioned(sticker price sounds about right too) but only delivery miles on it. They were asking for $57,900 but it just wasn't quite what I was looking for since it didn't have PASM(I'm now looking at a well equipped PDE1 with a sticker of 76,095 for 66,000). I think what you paid might be fair but I think you could have gotten more off.
I think you shouldn't dwell on it though since you already made the purchase. Just enjoy the car. I can't wait to get mine..it has to be shipped from Minnesota with an ETA of 7 days after we finish the paperwork.
PASM - Porsche Active Suspension Management
This active damping system offers continuous adjustment of individual damping forces based on current road conditions and driving style.
The driver can choose from two setup modes, ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’, using a separate ‘damper’ button on the center console. ‘Normal’ mode is designed for general road driving and circuits with uneven tarmac. ‘Sport’ mode is intended for smoother track surfaces, where the harder settings help eliminate pitch and roll.
In either mode, PASM continuously evaluates the current conditions while automatically selecting the corresponding damper rates from the respective set of mapped values.
A range of sensors are used to monitor the movement of the body under acceleration, braking and cornering maneuvers, as well as on poor road surfaces. The PASM control unit then evaluates this data and modifies the damping force on each individual wheel in accordance with the selected mode. The result is a significant reduction in body movement as well as a better grip on the road.
For example: if ‘Sport’ mode is selected, the suspension is automatically set to a harder damper rating. If the quality of the track surface falls below a certain threshold, the system immediately changes to a softer rating within the ‘Sport’ setup range. When the quality of the tarmac improves once more, PASM automatically returns to the original, harder rating.

If you were asking me, they were asking $1,200 for covered transport. It sounds a bit high but my cousin shipped his m5 from LA covered for $1,500 so in comparison it sounds reasonable.
I'm thinking about telling them to just throw shipping in there with the price but I don't want to sound like an a-hole. I didn't ask what the invoice on the car was so my basis for negotiation was just knocking at least 10,000 off.
Sorry, I should add that I'm in Dallas, TX and the car is coming from St. Paul, Minnesota.

David, I think you made a good deal. As long as you are happy, its a good deal. Enjoy!

$16,000 off for an 08 is a very good deal. Congrats!
Firm offers from 2 dealers $11.0000 off, msrp $71.000. In three weeks they
will be in real pain.
I got a final offer of 65,000 from a 76,095 MSRP for a new '08 DE1 with ACC, power seats, Bose, and xenons. I think I got a pretty good deal. Any opinions?
2006 CS
Nationwide
above average cars
42750 - 44000 ( 6k - 17k miles)
average cars
39500 - 41750 ( 12k - 28k miles)
below average cars
37000 -37800 (30k miles cars)
These are what a dealer pays at the auction, and they pay premium 200$ ~ 300$ on top. They pay also to the guy who buys the car if it is not local, plus transportation and reconditioning the car. I would put about
800 - 1000 dolars on top of the auction prices in order to estimate dealer cost.
I hope this helps
m.g
Any idea how these prices have held up post DOW melt down? I am guessing they are significantly lower.
