Help - Purchased used CS from a private seller

Hi everyone,

I'm from Canada looking for a 2006 CS and wondering if any experienced members can provide some pointers dealing with private sellers.

I heard some pluses and minuses but wondering if it is worth pursuing or should I purchase a used vehicle from a reputable dealer.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Thanks.

I've done it both ways; with Porsches and with other cars. In my view, finding the right used car is the most important concern. You should be just as careful with dealers as you'd be with private sellers. It's helpful to be able to talk to the current owner, and also have them drive the car with you as passenger. You should also be able to talk with the previous owner before buying from a dealer, but you'll probably never know how they drove it.

Dealer prices are usually a bit higher, but then they should be there for any needed adjustments, or to fix what breaks.

+1

Request all maintenance records, run a carfax, etc. Also look for a third party repair facility (one that knows Porsches if possible) and enlist them to do a buyers inspection. Most reputable places will do a pretty good inspection for $100 - $200. Reserve this for a car that is a "finalist" in your mind. Good luck!

I just saw your post and thought I'd mention my car to you. I am selling my Canadian Cayman S which I have had since new. If you are interested, I have it listed in the classified section on this site. Have a look and let me know if you're interested.

In my opinion, the only thing you can be sure of is wether the car is still under factory warranty or not. Everything else is a crapshoot.

Good luck.
