3 Months Away

Hi I'm from Miami FL and have been following this fantastic forum for about a year. I've been dying to get out of my darn lease (bmw 2006 330i sedan)... Its just not fun to drive!

I currently own a Cayanne S.

I've been looking to get a cayman as my everyday car. Recently a dealer had a cocktail for the cayman "need for speed". I drove the cayman (tip) and was blown away.

In November I would need to make a purchase.

Will there be any 2008's available by then?
I've tried to get invoice prices before on late model cars.. not worked for me.
Is the 2009 worth it?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

Try autotrader from MSN home page, click on auto and do a search. You will find many and the prices just keep getting better. Good luck.

Risk,
I just picked up my 2008 base Cayman tip three weeks ago. I waited 3 mths on an ordered car to get what I wanted. I was torn between manual vs tip. I can drive std no problem but after much soul searching and research I got the tiptronic. I guess I'm getting lazy in my old age but when I feel the need to get rowdy I just put it in "manual" and use the buttons. If you ever drove racing karts this is the closest thing to that experiance. I don't miss the shifting in everyday driving. Just put it in "D" and go about your buisness. Don't get me wrong , even in auto mode the Cayman is a blast but if you feel you need more involvement "M" is the way to go. There are those out there that will argue that an auto Porsche is not a true sports car, well that's OK with me because I made my decision and am totally happy with it. In the end, you can't go wrong with either trans, IMO. Best luck!

Tip vs MT

I agree with Someday - it's a decision you kind of have to come to on your own, based on how and where you are planning to use the car.

I have had MT daily drivers in the past, but as I have gotten older, I have found them a bit aggravating to drive in stop and go, rush hour traffic. When I got my CS with the knowledge that it would be a daily driver, I decided to go the Tip route, and haven't regretted it. If I were buying the car as just a weekend garage queen or track car, I would have gone with the MT - but that's just me. Good luck with whatever you choose.

If you do not want auto, I strongly suggest you wait for the the PDK transmission that will arrive next spring. It will replace Tip and will be vastly superior.

I drove an A3 DSG (similar to PDK) for 1 month last year and found it extremely pleasant to use.
