When are the 09's released?

I want to buy a new 2008 Cayman S but want to wait until the new 2009 Cayman is released in order to take advantage of the end year discount that will be offered on 08's.

What month will the 2009 cars appear?

What % discount can I anticipate on a year end "sale?"

Now is the time. Try at the end of the month. You can get it invoice or ~1000
under invoice depending on the accessories.

Excuse my ignorance but will the '09s have direct fule injection (DFI) or is that planned for the '10 models?

So on that same note, are the 2010 models released in the Spring of 2009?

No one truly knows, because nothing official has been announced. We all just have to wait till the end of the month or in September to find out.

The Sept issue of Car and Driver magazine says the Cayman will get direct-injected engines and twin-clutch gearboxes sometime early next year.

Also there will be larger LCD screen with the Navi package and Bluetooth, IPod, MP3 and USB connectivity.

I've noticed Cayman inventories in Socal dealers are waayyy down, some only having 3 or 4 cars between the base and S models...they've been actively clearing them out.
I wouldn't wait any longer if you're serious about an '08.

My local dealer said they were getting only 08's through the end of the year and that it may be Feb 09 before they saw the first 09's.

My sales manager at Stevens Creek Porsche told me that they have no allocation for '09s...

He is only speculating, but his opinion is they will skip '09...no one wants them since the '10 comes with DFI and PDK...anyone in their right mind will wait.

Porsche skipped a model year with their soccer-mom transport...so it's not out of character...

My '07 has a 2 yr lease which comes up in June of '09.... I'll be placing my order in about March...as best I can tell, I'm at the top of the list ( you know, the list that doesn't exist... )

Now, I need a really cool color....something paint to sample so it won't be like the other 7,000 Caymans here in Silicon Valley...

I would definately find an 08 and bring down the price at LEAST - 6k. I went to a dealer today in FL and they only has 6 caymans left. 4 manual, 2 tip. Said they were getting 09's starting in October since the factory is on vacation now and september they will start building and they will recieve product around october time.

Also said facelift and DFI was for 2010 model.... said by dealer.

Well, you can never tell (and rarely believe) what a dealer says. I stopped into a Orange County dealer on Sunday, and was told there is no facelift coming, and that the '09's would be on the lot next month....

You should be able to get at least 8-10 thousand off of an '08. I've gotten similar quotes on very well equipped '08 Cayman S's. If you're going to wait, I've been conversing with a dealership about a Design Edition and I mentioned that I might wait since the '09's come with DFI and yadda yadda and he responded saying, yes I was right but the discount wouldn't be as substantial. I can post our emails if you would like.

In my opinion, they will be great choices in either respect. It's really up to deciding whether you want to wait and if you can afford paying closer to sticker.

If you check EVERY dealership within the continental 48 states, you'll likely find what you're looking for. That's what I did. It took HOURS but it's worth the time. I think there's a dealership called EuroCLASSICS in VA that has some awesome S's with custom paint that I was looking at. There's also a Tangerine orange one in FL somewhere. They all have great options and I'm sure you can get them for a very good deal.

Edit: My reasoning for purchasing an '08 is that I really can't afford to buy at close to full price and...I'm just impatient and am dying to get in one since my test drives.

Sounds great. Why wait when you can enjoy driving a Porsche now.
