Hi Guys, Im a newbie here & it's my first post.I need your advice on buying a Salvage Cayman. What do you think is the right price for a salvage title Cayman S that was hit on the rear driver side quarter panel pls help
To me, salvage title implies lots more than simple body damage. If all that was needed was replacement/repainting of the quarter panel, there's almost no way an insurance company would have totalled it. That said, if upon careful inspection (by a Porsche dealer or other specialized independent) the frame and suspension bits are deemed to be fixed and straight, and the price is right, I'd say go for it. Just to take a stab at it, I'd guess 50-75% of "normal" used price.

You'd better do you homework thoroughly. Insurance company is not going to write off a car for a fender bender. There's more to this story and the title.

So from what I understand, an insurance will total your car if the repairs exceed 75% of the replacement cost.
If the fair market value of your car was $40k. Plus 10% for taxes and licensing. There would have been over $30k worth of damage.
Salvaged titles are great for older cars or cars that would be turned into a track car. The owner typically is planning to strip the car and install new parts on the car anyway. Or they turn their own wrench and wants a bargain deal on a car.
A couple of months ago I considered buying a new 2007 CS that had been hit where you describe. The dealer (in Baltimore) sent me photos and kept me appraised of the work done to fix the car. He was very honest, but when he said they were checking the frame, I found a 2008 in his inventory and bought it instead. In this case the 'minor' damage ended up being more than I felt comfortable with when I was not able to see the car for myself. But the dealer was great all along.
Check w/ your ins. company before buying, as you might not be able to buy full coverage ins. on a salvage vehicle - which would be especially problematic if you plan to finance it.

I bought a rebuilt NSX once, which hadn't been in an accident, but was a theft recovery. I got raped on insurance, after the dealer said not to worry about it (shady).
