Test Drive and finding an '06

Well, I drove the hell out of a Cayman and Cayman S today. Hands down... I have to have the Cayman S. I was hoping I would find something to pick about the the car - But I am flat out impressed. (Hard to do)

So, now... I think I am converting to the purchase option. I think this car could hold up to some abuse over the long haul. Is there a decent search tool for 2006 inventory?? All I have seen is 2007 online. I am looking for a Silver 2006 S... all other options negotiable. Nav would be cool. Anyone have any leads??

The used vehicle search tool at the Porsche USA website will provide you with details and photos of many 2006 models.

http://www.porsche.com/usa/pre-owned-vehicles/search/

If you search using the zip code for Porsche of Lansing, 48864, you will find 13 2006 CS models within 500 miles. If you broaden the search to nationwide there are dozens of '06 models.

Yours is out there. Good luck!

I bet you can find an '06. Your color choice may be tough because it is a classic.

Check out all the delalers in Chicago. Consider "performance" in Lake Forest.

If you pay cash/check and want to close on the spot then your MI dealer may be able to locate your car.

HURRY SPRING IS HERE! Good Luck. Congrats.

I know that Manhattan Motorcars in New York has a lightly optioned '06 CS in silver with an MSRP of a little more than 62K. They had it listed on ebay recently (it didn't sell), and they were asking $51,800 which is about 17% off. The car is not listed on their website but I'm positive they have it in their inventory, along with an '06 CS in yellow. Here is their contact info:

Kyle,

Is there a specific reason you are hunting an '06? I am assuming price.

If that assumption is correct, I might suggest going with an '07 for the following reasons:
  • 2006 have already depreciated by one year. If you are not keeping it real long term, it's resale will be less than that of an '07
  • 2007s include TPMS, a $590 option
  • There are some first year issues that you may not have to deal with if you get a 2007, but may have to deal with on a 2006, including
    • Loose flywheel bolt issue (there is no guarantee that this has been solved for 2007, but one can hope)
    • Trunk Clunk issue - There is an update that improves the symptom.
    • 2006 Windows don't vent when the rear hatch is opened. This was added in 2007 to improve closability of the rear hatch.
    • 2006s sometimes suffer from Check Engine Lights due to inefficient cat converters. Cats will be replaced under warranty to fix this.
    • Chirping Oil Pressure regulator. Easy fix under warranty.
  • 2007s have body color lower lips on the nose (Cayman S only)
  • There are more options available in 2007 including:
    • Porsche Sport Exhaust
    • Deviated Stitching Colors
    • Cobalt Blue is $690 in 2007, was $3,070 in 2006. Nice Color!

Yes, I am looking for an '06 due to the reduced pricing. I want to buy and hold onto it for a while. You make a good point about first year issues... but I am not terrbily concerned. The '07s seem to only get about $3500 off of MSRP. The '06 were 10-12k off.

I was calling to place a down payment at Manhattan Motors and they told me they just sold the Silver S... Damn. MSRP was 62 and change, sold for 51,900. Nice little savings...

Ah, back top the drawing board...

If anything falls through with your deal, Porsche of Nashua in Nashua NH has about 5 or 6 2006's. I got mine there in the fall and got $10,000 off.
