Breaking in new cayman

I havent received mine yet! Hence, this question is premature. However, I am interested as regards what advice members have in respect of the "breaking in" of a new car. Should you drive it hard, or relatively easy?

if you're in the u.s. take it easy. rest of the world can drive it hard!

ps- use the search tool also. i'm sure you'll find a few threads on this topic.

For the record the difference in break in recommendations for different parts of the world seems to be an Internet myth.

By the way the Porsche manual is available for download in the files section and you can read what Porsche suggests (which is probably easier than reading the umpty-thousand posts on the subject)

I've broken-in more engines than I can count, and I've always followed factory recommendations and have never had a problem. I'm in the camp that believes that you abide by what Porsche Engineering recommends. Moreover, it's Porsche and not some guy on a web site that provides the warranty.

Interesting topic... I don't believe it's ever been discussed on the Cayman Club site... so, there's no need to search because there's certainly not hundreds of opinions (and few facts) already contained in the archives... no, there's no need.

My salesman was adamant to break it in, I was expecting him to say let her rip! So I'm taking it easy for now...

Hey Presto,

Did you ever experience Vuja De? It is the feeling that one has NEVER witnessed or experienced a new situation previously. Sorry, couldn't resist!

Regards,
Joe

Owner manual for a UAE car states "Do not exceed maximum engine speed of 4200rpm"
This is under the break in hints for the first 2000miles.

The Internet myth explodes again... how funny. Are you listening, Santa Fe?

Exactly the same as the UK! Why does this question come up so often? Just do what Porsche recommends.

I would emphasise the bits about not letting the engine labour and using all the gears frequently rather than cruising in one gear.
