For the 2006 and 2007 MY, the first service is 20K miles. Porsche has changed the first service for MY2008 to 12K miles. I'd check your maintenance schedule in your manual packet to familiarize yourself with what Porsche recommends and when.
There are several topics on this forum pertaining to servicing your CS as well as articles in our Article section if you want to do it yourself. Probably one of the biggest discussed topics here is if you should change the oil prior to the 20K mile mark as recommended by Porsche. Do a search on oil changes and maintenance and see some of the topics that have been discussed here.
Good Luck, and welcome to the Cayman Club!

Crud! Now I'm really confused . I had to take my '06 CS in the other day with about 11,000 miles on it because the "see your serviceman" (or whatever it says) light came on. When I dropped it off, they said they would probably need to do the first service on it, and I said that was fine. When I picked it up, they said that I had probably not closed the gas cap all the way at some point, causing the warning to appear. I also asked if they had performed the first service and they said no, wait until 20,000 miles. I'm guessing that there is no significant difference between the '06 and '08 MY engines (unless the '08 will have DFI), so, what gives? Have they discovered that the '06-'07 CS needs servicing more often than 20,000 miles? I'm now just under 13,000 miles--should I have the first service done?
DFI
Direct Fuel Injection (DFI), is a new technology that Porsche states can cut fuel consumption by up to 15 percent, while increasing power by up to 13 percent. DFI cuts emissions by warming up the catalytic converter more quickly, and ensures a sharper throttle response. Better for your right foot - and the planet, then.
DFI allows much more precise measurement of fuel supply and injection at pressures up to 120 bar; it has numerous combustion modes, with different cycles for cold-starting, low-speed driving and performance driving.
As the name suggests, DFI injects fuel directly into the individual combustion chambers, instead of the intake manifold. The injector valves have an electromagnetic mechanism that controls each injection with astonishing precision, while a high-pressure pump provides the necessary pressure—up to 1,740 psi—to accompany the rapid fire of the fuel injection.
Precise geometry of the injector’s position and its spray pattern is a key factor in helping to improve power, torque and emissions of the engines. The specific placement of the fuel as it enters each chamber creates a swirl that improves the air/fuel mixture, and therefore the overall combustion process.
At engine speeds up to 3500 rpm, a double-injection process is used. In this mode, the required fuel volume is delivered in two successive injections per working stroke. The resulting benefits include faster catalyst warm-up and increased torque in the upper load range.
By forming the air/fuel mix directly in the combustion chamber, DFI contributes to engine cooling. As a result, it is possible to increase the compression ratio and with it the power and efficiency of the engine.
The direct injection process is continuously adjusted. The engine management system reads changes to throttle inputs and performance requirements and, as you drive, the air/fuel mix is monitored and adapted as required. Oxygen sensor circuits within the exhaust system provide accurate emissions control.

No need to be confused, there has been speculation that the dealers had their hand in the change so that they had more opportunities to have contact with the consumer to sell them parts, services and upgrade their cars. Whether that is true or not is anybodies guess but it makes sense.
You might read the posts in this thread to see some discussion on this very topic:
I will never see 10k or 20k miles so after almost 2 years I took mine in for service. I had 2k miles on it.
Russ
Geez, Russ, you must have super control of your impulses. Mine is an '06 and I do not use it for work or running errands, I just can't stay away from it for too long! Mine has ~12,700 miles on it. I gotta drive it!

In Russ' defense he lives on an island. You only can go around that bad boy but so many times.

My mechanic, whom I have trusted for more than 30 years, tells me that the very long oil change intervals specified by some manufacturers are proving to be too long. By 100k miles, it is clear that the oil has broken down between changes. Porsche's cutting the oil change interval in half may be a response.
I suspect they may have determined that 20K miles is too long. I'm going to change mine every 10K miles just to be safe (and prob. @ 5K for the first one).

you must have severe patience and a strong will - i could not possibly wait that long for break-in.
we are on 1,600mi and i ache to drive her up past 4,000rpm! (then again my usual driving style won't hit that anyhoo - it is just the thought and the anticipation...)
