Question cayman exhaust tip carbon build-up

i am shopping for a cayman or cs and have noticed a lot of caymans and also boxsters seem to have a lot of carbon build-up in the exhuast tip, these are
1k-3k mile cars and i wonder if anyone else has noticed this. these are ultra low emission engines and i wonder what causes this. thanks for any comments. i am new to the forum and may post this in several spots, not sure which is the best place to post. thanks to all

Just a guess - there seemed to be a lot of carbon buildup on one of my other cars for the first few thousand miles, but then got better, i.e. it might be a new engine phenomenon. If you want it to stay looking good, you will have to clean it regularly.

Yes this is true but.... It's easy to clean this off and make it look like...well... relatively new. All you need is a heavy duty tooth brush, or one made for a car, your favorite cleaner (soap and water works fine), a rag, and 5 minutes. When I'm done I like to use a little bit of Mothers titanium polish and wa-la! Your exhaust is clean. I usually need to clean mine every 3K miles for this is when it really gets carbon black in there.

Ooops just reread your post and I havn't answered your question . Well the Cayman S has a CO2 emission of 254. Not sure what this number represents, but I think it's 254L of CO2 per every lite of gas. All in all this is a relatively low number compared to other vehicles.

Foot down on right pedal will help. All Caymans get this to some degree, you'll just have to keep those tips clean, if you do an oil blow-out on the track it will all turn grey.

On the Acura I had before this I had more carbon build up on it than my Cayman and on my Infiniti about the same amount. The explanation I got was that they were low emision vehichles and it was a byproduct of a normal amount of unburnt fuel being converted by the cats. They also said this carbon residue should be dry and black. If it was another color or greasy that would be a sign of a problem. As the others have sai, its pretty easy to clean off. My tip is starting to discolor from heat a bit, which is proving more difficult to take care of and I'll probably have to get some polish out come spring.

Have to wonder what brand of gas they use & how far they drive. My 07 CS runs clean on Shell V Power. Have a Boothe chrome tip with 9k miles on the car. Not discolored & very little carbon.
