Angry Bad news from my mechanic

...went in to my trusted independent tech shop today for the two-year brake fluid change (ATE Super Blue). He called me to look at my '06 Cayman's front brakes..pads are worn out, AND there is some apparent scoring or surface deformity of the rotors, AND the brake pad sensors have been pulled out of their normal position so they don't function. I bought this CS one year ago with only 4700 mi.; it now has only 7000 mi. and has been driven very conservatively (by me, anyway). Likely scenario: previous owner (frequents this site) must have tracked the car and sustained some serious heat damage to the brakes.
Suggested fix: new pads, plus trying to resurface the rotors. If that doesn't work, new rotors @ $160 per...good reason to get a pre-purchase inspection!

My get the new rotors if it's marginal on the resurfacing.

As we have discussed before Porsche (and others) consider these to be expendable parts. All of us will face that expense if we keep our cars so consider it part of the cost of ownership just like tire replacement. Good point about checking before buying so you know better what is coming when.

An edit to say that this seems early so you may want to have a Porsche dealer give a second opinion.

Nice to know that they're cheaper than the rotors on my Audi ; )

You do have to look at the wear and tear stuff. Lesson learned.

You didn't get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection)?

Did the seller misrepresent the condition of those wear items?

I see the classified section has a set of slightly used calipers, pads, and rotors for sale.
