Speed in each gear? "S" "base" 5sp & 6sp

Has anyone made a list? Top speed in each gear? (or range)

I've only seen the numbers for the "S"

_____ 5sp base _____ 6sp base _____ 6sp "S"

1st _____________________________ 42mph
2nd _____________________________72mph
3rd _____________________________100mph
4th _____________________________125mph
5th _____________________________145mph
6th _____________________________171mph

The listed speeds are incorrect. They correspond to 7000 rpm, not the 7300 rpm redline. To obtain the correct redline speeds multiply all numbers by 7300/7100. The Caymanclub FAQ is incorrect in regard to this issue. I have notified a responsible moderator, but the error has not been corrected.

You can take a look at my post #34 in the following thread: http://www.caymanclub.net/cayman-ven...d-quicker.html My graphs only go to 7200 RPM which was from my 986 spreadsheet. Is Cayman really 7300RPM? If so, I'll have to make a note in the other thread or just fix and repost in a new thread adding the 5-speed since the vendor threads don't seem to get as much traffic.

arenared: Maybe you should leave it at 7200 rpm because 7300 is the beginning of Range 1 over-revs controlled by the rev-limiter. Apparently many of us are shifting at around 7000-7100 anyway to avoid hitting the rev-limiter.

Good point: theoretical vs. practical. You are not going be bouncing off the rev limiter each shift because power drops to zero at that time. So, I left it at 7200 RPM giving you a "margin of error" of 100RPM which IMO is still some pretty precise shifting

Like the 986 5-speeds, I actually like the spacing of the 987 5-speed better for "general purpose" use. You can see 2nd in the 5-speed is noticeably lower. It almost looks as if Porsche shoe-horned an extra gear in between 3rd and 5th since the rest of the gears are pretty close. This would probably be useful for track conditions well above 100MPH, but not so good for general street driving.

For those interested in changing the ratios, I have a few posts in the Vendor/Sponsor forum in the post above. Maybe I can start a new thread under modifications and/or move those other threads.
