weight descrepiancies?

I was brousing the Cayman literature and noticed the weight for a base Cayman with Tiptronic is 132 lbs more than manual. The Cayman S with Tip is 88 lbs more than manual. Anyone have any ideas why the two Tiptronic transmissions differ by 44 lbs. Am I missing something here?

Base Cayman w/manual 2886 lbs
Base Cayman w/Tiptronic 2998 lbs
difference 132 lbs

Cayman S w/manual 2954 lbs
Cayman S w/Tiptronic 3042 lbs
difference 88 lbs

Actually, the weight difference is related to the transmission that comes standard with each model. The Cayman comes standard with a five speed manual and the Cayman S comes standard with a six speed manual.

c rock,
I guess that could explain it. So your saying that there is a 44 lb difference between a 5 speed and a 6 speed? Seems like a lot.

Yes, it's true that the 6 speed gearbox (gearbox, not car) is 44 lbs heavier than the 5 speed gearbox. It may seem a lot but they don't share the same manufacturer.

The upcoming PDK gearbox will be 66 lbs heavier than the 6 speed gearbox and 110 lbs heavier than the 5 speed gearbox.

According to this link 7-Speed Dual-Clutch Transmission by Porsche and ZF Enters Volume Production, the weight of the PDK transmission is 120kg (264 lbs).

Therefore:

Tiptronic 286 lbs
PDK 264 lbs
6-speed manual 198 lbs
5-speed manual 154 lbs
