07 Cayman asplosion

(lame misspelling in the topic intended).

I went to crank my 2007 Cayman to goto lunch and it filled with black smoke, I immediately turned the car off and tried to recrank it and it wouldn't start. It comes close to starting but just won't turn over.

It was fine this morning when I started it and I've had no indication of problems before (no noises, plenty of oil, etc). It has about 10,200 miles on it and I had the oil changed at about 5,000 miles. I realize this could be a number of things, but I was wondering if anyone had a similar issue or any thoughts on what it could be? I really just need some comfort

I'm also taking it to HBL, who I've had problems with before and I really want to get some thoughts and opinions on what it COULD be so I can be a little prepared.

I had black smoke come from my exhaust in my 07 CS. I took it to Rockville Porsche and they could not figure out what it was.

However, when I took it to HBL they figured it out and gave me a free loaner. Turns out it was a failed O2 sensor. The difference betweeen mine and yours is that my car would turn on, which yours does not.

My problem happened at around 7500 miles and I did my oil change at around 6000 miles, which was 6 months after I bought the car. I just felt better taking it for the first oil change early.

Next time somebody quotes the BS JD Power study on how Porsche was the #1 brand in initial quality, you can politely disagree with them.

I think its hit or miss. I've had no issues (other than self induced) with my car (knock on wood). I have 40K miles over 26 months.

I had a similar but not the same incident the other day. Car was parked on a slight incline with nose up went to start the care but it would not start would just miss igniting. Had to try to start it about three times before I let the car role back to a flat spot and then tried and it started, but no smoke has bedn fine ever since but then it has only been a day or two.

Thanks for the comments, I'm still a little freaked out by it but we'll see what they say tomorrow.

I called Porsche Roadside Assistance and they were great, they towed it to the dealer and they are going to look at it on Monday. I'll let ya'll know what they say.

Sorry for the double post...

They couldn't reproduce it and the car cranked fine apparently, which is a mystery to me. I've been driving it for the past 2-3 days with no problems and no more smoke. I assume that if it is something serious then it'll pop up again, just hopefully not before I can finish moving to GA
