Our 6-speed gearbox a little slow?

After trying the 997 GT2 gearbox stationary, I was struck by how much more precise it was compared to the Cayman's, giving a new meaning to rifle bolt snick snack. Better than even any Honda gearbox I've tried, including the NSX and S2000. That got me thinking.

The getrag 6-speeder we have in the Caymans, in time I've found it to be very slow, probably the synchros do not allow faster shifts in unless we force it, which is really bad for the synchros. Compared to many other gearboxes in lesser cars even, eg. the Honda Civic, I feel that I have to baby it in, like WAITING for it to get past the synchros even with a perfect double declutch.

What model is our Getrag? A G96? Is there any way to modify it to accept shifts quicker?

Are you sure it just was not the feel of the short shifter on the GT2?

All Carrera gear shifts feel more direct. I imagine this is because the gearbox is 3" behind the lever, not way off the other side of the engine as in the Cayman Boxsters.

Both use spawn-of-the-devil cables though

I would've said the cables were the problem- do 911's use cables too?

Yes. In their favour, they do reduce noise transmitted from the 'box to the passenger compartment.
