The Main Heading is followed by 3 separate installation instructions

The 'System' repeatedly rejected downloading a file folder, with all pages included...........

Is not the Cayman a variant of the Boxster?

The heart of the matter is that Porsche know this problem, and had a fix worked out for the Boxster, but failed to implement it in the Cayman..........

Thanks for posting that, Karel. I had been wondering about the vacuum line ports on the top of the new VOS, and this bulletin says they are not needed.

Based on this, I'm going to have a talk with my local dealer. Maybe I can get them to do the work under warranty.

As an FYI the motorsports separator has a coolant line running through it which the factory separator does not, but it is easy to tap into the coolant near it.

Like I mentioned in the other thread, the part number listed in the instructions is the same as the Motorsports VOS. While it appears that the VOS will drop right into a 986 with only a new hose and some bolts and seals, we already know that the VOS interferes with the 987's secondary air pump. So, either Porsche is quietly trying to work out a drop-in fix for the 987, or they may just not care enough about it to bother with it.

Do we even need the coolant line for the VOS? I suspect that, even in arctic conditions, the 987 engine compartment stays much warmer than 996's would -- wouldn't that be sufficient to keep the VOS from icing up? I don't think any 987 owners have bothered to hook the VOS into the cooling system, and no one has reported any problems so far. Dunno, maybe it's just a matter of time....

I just checked the instructions Karel posted, and on page 3 it says,
Quote:
The two [coolant] connections on the oil separator ... have no function in Boxster vehicles and can remain open.
So, I guess we don't have to worry about connecting a coolant line.

Question

kareldeeley,

Not to downplay the work you have accomplished (thanks), but I have reduced all four files down to one PDF file with the latest version of Adobe Acrobat Pro to 780KB versus 10MB. No loss in resolution or quality. Are you interested in the file?
