I was reviewing the mantenance schedule for 20K mile service on my '07 CS. I noticed that Porsche doesn't call for an air filter replacement until 40K miles. This seems like a long time for the filter.
Has anyone pulled the filter at 20K? How bad was it?
Anyone have an on line, non-Porsche source , for this filter? I've found all the filters except air. Your comments appreciated.
I just helped a friend pull his at 22K miles, just because he wanted to. At least I talked him out of a K&N replacement. The original filter was dirty looking and very dusty, but I think this was "feel good" maintenance. I'm not convinced the old filter was really constricting air flow, but the new element does look a lot better!
BTW... a helpful hint for the change operation... if you perform the change outside or in a garage with a very high ceiling, the hatch lid can be pushed waaaay up high so it doesn't interfere with getting the filter itself in and out. Also, wash the car first and put thick towels between you and the paint, because, at least for fat old me, the filter assembly is in an annoying position.
FWIW, I recently changed my air & cabin filters at 13,9xx miles (2 years). The air filter was dirty, but not near the end of its life. I changed it anyway. I used an oem filter from Sunset Porsche.
The cabin filter was filthy, suggesting the need for a shorter service life.

YES! CHANGE IT!!! TODAY!!! And it's easy as pie to change. I just changed dealer service depts and they happened to check it. My service tech said it was the worst filter (dirty!) that he had ever seen! And he's been a Porsche master tech for over 20 years. He said he didn't know how air even flowed through it. The car runs better now that it can breathe.

Easy as pie? You must be a better mechanic than I am, because step one is "remove engine cover", and that takes a few minutes, especially the first time you try it. Taking out the old filter and putting a new one in is not quite easy as pie, IMHO, because at least on my friend's car you have to fight with it a bit, and Porsche carefully designed the air filter housing to be in as inconvenient a place as possible. Do-able by just about anyone? Yes. Easy as pie? Maybe toffee pie...

At least you have the right color Cayman.
Oh... yeah, I didn't quite finish my sentence. Meant to say easy as pie for a GIRL!!! And yes, Cobalt rocks!
