Rev limiter

I overdid the the heel and toe yesterday going into a corner at a Porsche club education day, and to my horror I saw the needle go to about 7500. I am fairly sure it wasn't the downshift as I was only going from 3rd to 2nd and had slowed the car quite a bit (it was wet and slippery and I wasn't at full revs before I braked and changed down).

Is there a chance that the rev limiter isn't working, or would this throw a warning light? Or am I dreaming? I am still having flashbacks. I don't want to hurt my poor baby croc!

Can anyone explain what happens when you do hit the rev limiter? Does the power get cut and the needle drop quickly? Or is it less noticable? On the way home from work tonight I wanted to test it but nothing happened at 7,300 and I backed off. I don't have sport chrono.

When you hit the rev limiter due to delayed upshift, it cuts in gently and it is barely noticeable. So, if you reved it with a heel/toe, it would have cut in smoothly. If you over rev due to a downshift, things get more abrubt, but I do not have direct experience in the Porsche; I only did that mistake once in my old STi (4th to 2nd), and rear hopped crazy, but amazingly engine survived.


Several others posted their experience on this, try the search, I am sure you will come accross couple of threads.

It should cut off at 7250 I believe.


Makes not difference if you have Sport Chrono or not; rev limit is the same.
