Brake Fluid

I spoke to my son (an Audi tech at a Porsche/Audi dealer) about changing to ATE Super Blue brake fluid for track events. I used it in my 911 with good success but it didn't have ABS. He told me the Porsche techs, during their Caymen update training, not to subsitute this (or, as far as I know, any other brake fluid) for OEM fluid. Evidently, the ABS seals will corrode and fail. I don't know if this is an effort to sell more OEM fluid or a valid problem. No tech bulletin has been issued by Porsche but they are slow to issue these anyway. It's just a heads-up for those of us who do our own upgrades and maintenance. If and when I find out more, I'll update this message.

This sounds pretty ridiculous....There is nothing different about the Cayman S braking system than any other recent Porsche. Many of us who have tracked our cars have changed brake fluid, and no one has mentioned any issues. Only those who didn't change the stock fluid have anything to worry about at the track, imo.

Absolute BS.Super Blue is identical to ATE 200 except for the blue dye & both have been used in thousands and thousands of ABS equiped Porsches without any issues.

However,Super Blue is no longer DOT approved becauseits dark colormakes it difficult to tell by color change if it's really, really old. Of course, I doubt Blue users leave fluid unchanged for more than Porsche's rec of 2 years. Some shops will no longer change to Blue because of perceived liability issues.

To all who responded, thank you. It's back to SuperBlue I go. When I had the '83 911 I changed fluid every 6 months anyway. I alternated blue and gold so I could tell when the system was completely flushed.
