Pulling the trigger on some HRE's

Hi guys,

I'm going to pull the trigger on some HRE 541's. Here are the specs i was thinking about getting:

19x8.5 +48 Front
19x11 +45 Rear

How do you guys feel about these numbers?

Thanks

-Dimitri

Sounds great. Should have no problems on stock suspension. Do you have a pic?

I just ordered 'em - HRE recommends 10.5 for the rears.

Here are the specs - if it doesn't sound right me let me know so i can modify the order:

19x8.5 +48 front 245/35/19 Toyo T1R
19x10.5 +38 rear 285/35/19 Toyo T1R

will post pics 4 weeks from now when they come in

The HRE 541 is an excellent wheel - good choice!

When I ordered my Forgeline wheels, I had a slightly different size
19x9 ET 52 front
19x10 ET 40 rear

So my front wheels were .5" wider, and my rears .5" narrower. Each end has a slight difference in offset. 4mm up front and 2mm in the rear.

You might want to see if you can get a 9" front wheel instead of just 8.5".
Since it's a forged wheel, it's not like you can pick up the phone and order a different inner/outer half.

I don't know much about the Toyo T1R tire. I know it doesn't carry the Porsche "N1" rating. I believe the closest Michelin Tire with the N1 rating are the Pilot Sport 2 235/35ZR19 and 295/30ZR19. That would be a little narrower up front than you have now and a little wider in the rear.

What made you choose the Toyo tire?

It's just what they recommended. I also read a bunch of reviews and saw that it was a good tire. I was going to go with the Bridgestone RE050A as well...but now i'm having second thoughts. I can always change the tires at the last minute b/c it's going to take 4 weeks to have HRE build the wheels.

Do we HAVE to you with Porsche N1 rating? If so, please elaborate. Thanks drvreg

When you say that whay "they" recommended - who is that? Your garage, HRE, the vendor you ordered the wheels from. If you're selling wheels to be fitted on a new Porsche, you ought to know about N rated tires.

Porsche spends a lot of time, money and effort working with tire companies to get the "right" tire for their cars. One that will meet the factories performance, confort and safety requirements. You're entire driving experience really comes down to this four tiny rubber contact patches.

The TireRack has a pretty article describing Porsche's N rating here.
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete....jsp?techid=26

It's worth the read.

Are you going to spin off the road and die if you don't use an N rated tire? no. For me personally, I wouldn't mount anything but an N rated (street) tire on my Cayman.

Thanks drvreg...those tires were recommended to me by the vendor, not HRE. Looks like i might have to just stick with the OE tires. Do you know of any other tire with N rating?

Michelin Pilot Sport 2 and Continental SportContact are the two that come to mind.
