I was looking at some photos of cars in the Registry tonight when I noticed something that I hadn't noticed before and I am wondering if it is reality or an optical illusion. I have attached 2 photos, both showing cars with the 19" Carrera "S" wheels.
What it looks like to me is that the front wheel is convex, meaning that the spoke of the wheel stick out in the center and go in towards the car as they meet the rim of the wheel on the front wheel. However, the rear wheel looks concave as if the the rim sticks out more than the center and the spokes are going in instead of out. I hope this makes sense. Does anyone else think it looks this way and for those with these wheels is that actually how the wheels are cast or is it just an optical illusion?
its a reality...the back wheels are a different offset, as you probly know already, so they have that different aspect about them. check out my carrera sports

This looks like a good opportunity for my first post since you made an example of my Yellow Cayman
The spokes on the rear wheels are pretty much flat. On the front, they bow out as you decribe. Interesting observation - I hadn't really noticed 'till you pointed it out.
I knew the wheels had different offsets, but on my 18" Cayman S wheels the front wheel is flat and the rear wheel is just deeper, no concave/convex setup.
Nobody gives you more ways to get the look you want:
1. Purchase new Porsche Factory alloys.
2. Purchase like-new used or restored Porsche alloys from us.
3. Have us refinish your Factory alloys. We restore, anodize, polish and chrome plate.
4. Purchase our aftermarket wheels--we offer the very best, including Kinesis, Fikse, BBS, HRE and Champion to name a few.
5. Exchange your straight, true Factory alloys for Factory alloys pre-finished the way you want.

Actually I would call both of those wheels in that pic convex, just one has a deeper offset in the rear so more of a lip. What I'm talking about above is that the wheel spokes appear to bow in opposite directions on the front and back wheels. In your aftermarket wheels pic above they both appear to bow inwards towards the car, just one more than the other due to the depth of the lip.

Illusion. It only makes sense that the center of the wheel is going to be cast the same front to back, but the offset (distance between the wheel center and the outside edge of the rim) is different front to rear-- and that must be what makes it look concave v. convex.
I see what you are talking about in the pics though, especially the first one. The more I look at it, the more it looks like the centers might be cast differently, but that seems pretty unlikely.
