I'm thinking of painting my (to be coming) White Cayman wheels RED, as opposed to black or aluminium.
When balancing the tyre and in normal use, if I use powdercoating paint technique, any of who with experience with this have bad chips and scratching from the balancing weights?
Powdercoat is the only way to go if you want it to last. Any chips can be fixed with color matched paint.

I was advised (by Wheel Enhancement) to go with paint because the powder coating process (heat) actually weakens the material.
Tire installation and balancing should not scratch the paint at all, if experienced installer!
Red wheels on white looks cool for sure!

Nobody gives you more ways to get the look you want:
1. Purchase new Porsche Factory alloys.
2. Purchase like-new used or restored Porsche alloys from us.
3. Have us refinish your Factory alloys. We restore, anodize, polish and chrome plate.
4. Purchase our aftermarket wheels--we offer the very best, including Kinesis, Fikse, BBS, HRE and Champion to name a few.
5. Exchange your straight, true Factory alloys for Factory alloys pre-finished the way you want.
6. Exchange your scratched/curb damaged Factory alloys for new or refinished Factory Alloys.
7. Trade in your straight, true Factory alloys for aftermarket or Factory wheels. http://www.wheelenhancement.com

you may want to check this thread out if you are serious about it...
powdercoating will hold up better than paint, however the point about the wheels becoming weaker has been debated here and elsewhere. It depends on the wheel and how it was fabricated. I would trust the guys at wheel enhancement with questions in regards to specific wheels they carry, really good guys with lots of wheel experience and knowledge. good luck.

hot damn! Thanks for that link and the input, people. Looks great to me. I'll apply it to the 17"s, and if they weaken, screw it I'll get new 18s then.
i think red will makes your car stands out.
great idea!
i was thinking to paint my outer circle the same color as my calliper
I pinstriped (tape) my rear wheels just to see the effect. Not bad but I find that the thickness of the pinstripe and the position relative to the edge of the rim make a substantial difference in appeal.
If it grows on me more I may paint them that colour (Google pinstriping and there's a company that makes a real neat and simple machine to do it).
that'd be her! Looks darn near fool proof. When they make it idiot proof I'll buy one!
Take a look at sites with sport motorcyle wheels with rim edges painted. They can look really neat, especially in black. My CS 18's just don't quite look right in the original silver colour with red pinstripe. I've got blue pinstripe on the workbench too and might switch to see if blue works with silver better - car is GT Silver so the contrast might work better if I had black wheels. I'll take some pictures so I can do a comparo.
