I would start it at $200 to $250.00 + shipping and see where it goes. This is assuming it is a 17 inch set. Make sure it has 10 days in the auction, so people can find it.
The collapsible tire kit cost something like $750.00 from the dealer
When I was at my auto repairman's shop, I noticed a sign which indicated that canned Fix-o-flat spray fillers SHOULD NOT be used with TPMS tires, that using such foams will ruin the sensor.
Whoa!
I asked my mechanic and he said that the cost for an average sensor was $50. Plus there is a $5 "re-learning fee."
Gee, I'd hate to ask what a Porsche dealer would charge for the sensor and service, but let's figure 5x's that. Maybe $275.
Why does Porsche toss in a can of something that will destroy a tire pressure sensor?
TPMS
TPMS - The Tire Pressure Monitoring System provides early warning of any drop in pressure by continuously monitoring the pressure in each tire and alerting you in the onboard computer display in the event of a pressure deficiency. It communicates the exact pressure of each tire and/or their deviation from ideal pressure. This does away with the need for regular air pressure checks at the service station, which often prove highly inconvenient.
Don'tmiss scraping my master's windshield, winter oil, winter tires, chains, pluggin' in the car over night--block water heater! and interior warmer. And having to put anti-freeze in my GAS!
The dealer was putzing around trying to figure out all the parts and pieces to order me a proper spare for the front trunk while the car was still on the ship.
Then... The 2007 Caymans came in and some had the spare tire kit *by mistake*. The Porsche reps were coming around collecting them but I insisted that I wanted one of those since they were *complete*. All the dealer had to do was install 2 clips in the front trunk and the kit "bad" strapped right in and never ever rattled. I had forgotten that they were asking $1,000 for these things! Geez!
Oh well... Let's see how it does on ebay. Thanks for all your responses.
Joe, that is why Porsche warns in the manual to use only the Porsche gook and not the after market stuff. My understanding, without having tried it, is that the Porsche product doesn't mess up the TPMS. But we need some field reports to be sure.

Why not run an auction here in the classifieds for your Cayman buddies first?

I think they are still mad that I'm trading my car in! `;-()
Nobody is mad that you are trading in your car, seriously, you should offer it in our classifieds to the members here as well, either via auction or static listing if you have a price in mind. If it were an 18 or 19" kit I would bet you'd get a lot of takers, but I don't think the 17" spare fits on an "S" model does it?

I'm not sure exactly what size it is - when I pull it out of the car this AM I can unzipper it and know for sure. From what I recall, it was the same specs as the one I was going to order (in parts/pieces) and fully compatible with the S and the various 911s. I was going to have another one installed on the C4s, however, when they tried to install it, it sat too far forward in the truck and the trunk wouldn't close (the C4s has more "stuff" mounted by the factory in front of the firewall), so...
I will take some pix showing it mounted in the car and I'll "unzipper" the kit from the bag to show the components.
I'd be more than happy to sell it to any member here (auction or otherwise) as I don't need it to take space in the garage...
