Tire/Wheel question (I'm sorry)

I apologize for this one, I know its probably all out there in cc world, and I've found bits of it, but I'm in a crunch for time now on this one.

My Dad's taking the plunge with his 997S - doing PSS9's, wheels, tires, seats, etc...

Anyway, he'll sell me his BBS RE's with MPSC's with 50 miles on them. 18".

BUT - offset is 65 on the rears, 55 on the front, and although the front is the same as my stock size, the rear is 295/30 (I'll do the math for you: 1.3something inches smaller diameter than the stock)

I'm knowledgeable enough to be concerned, but not sure how concerned I should be about the following:

1) understeer with more rubber in the rear
2) 20mm spacers to make the rears fit
3) will the tires fit under the lip of the fender? (I'm putting one on tonight to check)

I'm thinking I need to buy new rubber, but am not sure if I can/should even go with those wheels.

Again, I apologize for the redundancy to this topic, but sometimes it has to be brought up in personal circumstances.

Thanks all-

John

the important part of this question is what is the width of the rear wheel is it a 10 or 11 inch wheel?

I had to check it out for myself, and no, the wheel won't fit without spacing. Can't even tighten the bolts it hits the suspension so quick.

It looks like I may have the room for the 20mm spacing, but not much more.

i use a 18x10 inch 997 wheel from a base 911 and i use a spacer it works well and fill the wheel well nicely. just make sure to get the one you bolt to hub.

i dont think anyone can fit an 11inch wheel under a cayman

Thanks Alex -

I assume that its just as "strong" a connection with the spacer, right?

The saga continues. Was told by a shop that 18mm should do it, but it doesn't. I can tighten the wheel down, but it rubs the suspension. In order to get as much clearance as the stock, I'd have to go at least another 7-10mm, and I am starting to get out of my comfort zone as far as this mod goes, since its a track wheel. Would be some long bolts holding that wheel in.

By the way, the 295 with the 18mm spacer doesn't look all that much wider than the stock, which, I suppose is obvious because the spacer is just trying to change the offset of a 997 wheel.
