I really feel I'm buckin' the trend/fashion by not likin larger wheels, ie., 19 or 20"
Heck, on my A3, I took off the std 17s and put on 16's.
Like it better in every way.
Anyone else a renegade like me?
Barry
Usually I like a bit of upsize, but on the Cayman I think an 18" wheel looks best.
19" and 20" wheels look good but the rubber gets so thin that the car loses the "motorsports" look/appeal. It does not look like it could really do well on the track anymore. The car turns into a head-turner but you know that the driver doesn't bang on it or drive it to the limit with 20's.
I do like aftermarket wheels though as I think that the Porsche designs are a bit dated and boring.

Nobody gives you more ways to get the look you want:
1. Purchase new Porsche Factory alloys.
2. Purchase like-new used or restored Porsche alloys from us.
3. Have us refinish your Factory alloys. We restore, anodize, polish and chrome plate.
4. Purchase our aftermarket wheels--we offer the very best, including Kinesis, Fikse, BBS, HRE and Champion to name a few.
5. Exchange your straight, true Factory alloys for Factory alloys pre-finished the way you want.
6. Exchange your scratched/curb damaged Factory alloys for new or refinished Factory Alloys.
7. Trade in your straight, true Factory alloys for aftermarket or Factory wheels. http://www.wheelenhancement.com
I wouldn't buy the car without the 18" wheels and the dealer had to comply or I was walking. In the end they swapped from another car from the 19" carrera classics. So, I got the wheels I wanted, it cost $1500-$2000?? less(can't remember), tires are cheaper, which is important cos I go through them quickly due to tracking the car and as a byproduct, somebody got a free set of 19"'s as a sweetener when they were buying their car. Everyones a winner.
I prefer the 18s as well. I'll probably get somewhat wider aftermarket forged rims, but will stick with 18" diameter. Actually, there may be more Caymans on 18s than 19s. Frequent posters here probably aren't a random sample of Cayman owners.

My car initially had 19" wheels on it and I switched them out for 18" because I liked the ride better. The best art of that transaction is it saved me A couple thousand dollars.
The 20"+++ wheels look completely ridiculous to me. And they ride like they look. Its strange because I do enjoy new tech design and innovation, but these huge 20"+++ wheels just seem to be cheap cosmetic jewelery, and will ruin any good quality new design. I guess I'm just old school on tire and wheel sizes. Unfortunately many of my favorite wheels come only in 19". But can live and smile with 19's for streets. I go 18" for track.

I don't like the 20" plus and/or the slammed look on any Porsche. To me it makes the car look like a little cockroach skittering around......like something needs to step on it and put it out of its misery.
IMO I like the looks of the 18"s the best, the 19"s look good also.....I just don't like how they make the brakes look small.

Love the std. 17"s on my Cayman (2.7).
a. Couldn't afford the bigger rims
b. Adds to the classic look I think this car has. Save the bbs type stuff for sti's...

But that is a personal choice. Bling is bling. It's OK to like bling. However, I would fear it would detract from performance and I seriously doubt anyone would 20"+ for performance reasons.
I almost bought a lightly optioned CS with 19" Carrera Classics. I liked the look. Don't know much about the handling issues because I'm new to all of this.
The car I ended up buying has 18" Cayman S wheels and now that I have 500miles on the car I realize what a nightmare those Classics would have been to clean!
That aside, I would like to upgrade to wheels that have a black element to them. I think that would really make my blk/blk CS with tinted windows look mean. I would like to get an offset to the wheel that would push the rears out a little for a wider footprint. But I don't want to screw up the geometry of the car and I fear moving away from a genuine Porsche look. I like the wheels on K-mans yellow bird. Kind of a retro Fuch/cup look. Any ideas?
