Nitto o1's for Autocross

I'm going the jump to R compound tires for Autocross. Has anyone autocrossed the Nitto 01's? If so what did you think? If not what would you recommend?

I've been looking for a used set of R compounds but had no luck. I'm running 18" wheels. I have two sets of wheels 18x8 front and 18x9, 18x10 rears.

I would really appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks,

Batman

Here is my . I don't think NT-01s will heat up enough for AX.
My plan for the 2008 season is to use NT-01s on the track and RE-01s for AX.
Disclaimer: I have not used NT-01s in AX.

I'm on my 3rd set of NT-01s, though I do more DE's than AX (and most of our AXs are DE style w/ continous lapping). I love these tires but they do take a full lap or more to heat enough to be grippy. Probably not the best choice for AX.

Here is a thread on the issue and my summary of autocross performance of the NT-01's.

Source for shaved Nitto NT01's?

I would say if you are concerned enough to feel the need to shave the Nitto for maximum performance in an autocross you should just start with a V710. It is a much better autocross performer than the Nitto because the Nitto doesn't generate enough heat quickly enough to be a top dog in an autocross.

Of course, Hoosier autocross tires would be great but will wear faster than a V710. I wouldn't count on the BFG to be a long lasting tire from the tread design and wear rate. However, you wouldn't expect the V710 to last as long as it does for most people so who knows.

I run Nitto's on my Boxster S in autocross and used a pyrometer on them at an autocross school this past weeekend. Granted it was a rather cool, cloudy day but even with multiple hard runs back to back I couldn't get the tires close to the optimum temperature suggested by Nitto. I posted elsewhere on this site but I believe it's 160 to 220 degrees F. I think they are a great tire to drive on back and forth to events and have decent performance at autocross just not the best.
