TechArt Wheels

Ok I have been going back and forth on this topic for awhile now. I finally found a place that wants to work with me. Listed below is what I am willing to purchase. Someone told me that I would pay $6K or so for the Formula 1 set and painted. Now I am going with 18"s cause I like stock and whatnot. My price is about $2K less than that so I am just wondering if there is anything that I am missing....please let me know....

Thanks.

TechArt Formula 1
18x8.5 front x 2
18x10.5 rear x 2
required adapter kit for rear - one pair
custom paint the entire wheel Carrara White x 4

Depending what you are buying these for, I would consider a lighter and stronger set of wheels. I would always prefer a forget aluminum wheel over a cast aluminum. Much stronger and much lighter. The Techart’s are cast I believe.

Do you have the offset of these wheels?
Are these original Techart?
You sure you want 18”?
How much are they charging you for painting?
A “good” paint job for wheels can cost up to $200 per wheel, if done right!

They are original TechArts. I like my 18"s, no need for 19"s. They are charging me $3800 for the entire set, no sales tax and $150 for shipping. This is the email from the President of the company (I only deal with big dogs).

Hi Matt,

The wheels are:
TechArt Formula 1
18x8.5 front x 2
18x10.5 rear x 2
required adapter kit for rear - one pair
custom paint the entire wheel Carrara White x 4

Hi Matt,

In white, I can do the wheel set (no tires) for 3,800 plus delivery. This
includes the required hardware kits and the custom paint to Carrara White.

If this works for you, please let us know. Thanks!

fwiw, i have been told by people much smarter then I that Techart wheels are very heavy and (although they do look good) would be like putting lead boots on your car.

not sure about the weight, but I'm pretty certain Techart wheels are cast, not forged.

I can't seem to find weights for the Techart Wheels, but as far as I can see they are manufactured by Alcoa and are forged.

As for the the group buy on the RAC Monolites, we're expecting weights to be around 17# for the 18X9's and 18# for the 18X10's. Price right around $3K plus shipping, with offsets optimized for the Cayman and no spacers so no added weight. I don't think there will be an option for painting so that would be up to each individual to arrange. If this interests you see the group buy thread.

Champion Motorsports and RAC are working on the design right now and we should have the spec's around this time next week.

No pressure intended, just providing you with a summary of info to help any decision you might make.

Are you talking about a specific TechArt wheel that is cast? Because in my previous thread I responded saying they were forged and made by Alcoa, which is the only information I could find when I Googled it. I don't disagree on the heavy part because no where could I find the weight, and when the vendor makes no effort to display weight the assumption is that they do that for a reason. Personally, I wouldn't spring for $4K when the basic design parameters are difficult/impossible to decipher.

As far as I know, only the 19 and 20 inch wheels are made by Alcoa and are forged… their 18 inch wheels are cast… and probably heavier than the 19 inch, who knows... They don’t supply weight information, for a good reason…

I had to go to an obscure website to find a weight for the 19" RS98's which wasn't listed anywhere on Champion's site. My point is Champion wheels are very lightweight and incredibly strong but they don't list this information. Not all vendors exclude wheel weight info. for negative reasons.

Agree. In the case of our group buy we'll have the CAD files which calculate the finished weight though, so that unknown will be eliminated. I don't know why some of the companies don't advertise what I see as a positive feature.
